Meet Dr. Michael Romberg of SAS Surgical

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Michael Romberg.

Started our own private practice two years ago. We at SAS Surgical are committed to the care and improvement of human life and we inspire our philosophy in our partnership with patients for the interest of their health. We recognize & affirm the unique and intrinsic worth of each individual.

Dr. Romberg has been serving the community as a medical doctor for over 20 years. His expertise includes: General Surgeries, Oncologic Surgeries, Minimally Invasive Surgeries, Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy.

We aim to serve with compassion, kindness, honesty and above all, INTEGRITY!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This leap of faith to branch out on our own has blossomed into a thriving practice. We are extremely grateful to our colleagues who have stood by our side. Sleepless nights and working 12-16 hours a day were commonplace for a few months. The one thing that stood out was the autonomy we had in the direction we wanted to take our practice into.

Dr. Romberg, being the true patient advocate chose this profession to help and preserve the sanctity of life. We accept most insurances that others don’t. We work with those who do not have the luxury of having insurance. Bottom line–we are here to HELP!

Please tell us about SAS Surgical.
I am Board Certified with over 20 years of experience in general surgery. An undergrad of the University of Chicago, he received his medical degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

I specialize in a full-range of general and cancer surgery procedures. My oncology expertise includes lung surgery, lumpectomy, mastectomy, thoracoscopy, mediastinoscopy, sentinel node biopsy and more.

I was instrumental in bringing sentinel node biopsy to Ingalls Memorial Hospital and was one of the first in the area to receive certification to perform this lymph node-sparing procedure.

I also specialize in Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), a medical treatment which enhances the body’s natural healing process by inhalation of 100% oxygen in a total body chamber, where atmospheric pressure is increased and controlled.

We’ve all stared down at what appears to be a bottomless pit of challenges. This could mean parting ways with colleagues, facing a liquidity crunch or not having the backing of partners. It’s in these darkest moments where we learn the most about ourselves. I’m proud of the manner with which our team has overcome a series of seemingly insurmountable hurdles to enable us to achieve our current position today.

Every day brings new challenges and opportunities and I learn from the amazing team of individuals that I surround myself with– encouraging our growth as a company.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Playing ghost in the graveyard.
