Today we’d like to introduce you to Rimgaile Aciene.
Rimgaile, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Honestly, I’ve never planned to own a fashion boutique and especially in America as I was born and raised in Lithuania. But life is full of unexpectedness! I moved to the States eight years ago with my husband and a one-year-old son when my mother-in-law got us GC. We were excited and full of plans! However, there is one good adage – You may plan but God decides 🙂 And even though nothing came out as we expected, we can’t complain either.
I graduated with MS in Psychology in 2013 while working in logistics company. I had some huge plans for my career but as a rule – those plans were adjusted. I got pregnant with my second son and had to put those career related dreams aside. I had no plans for any retail business whatsoever. But the same year (2013) Ma Belle Avenue Boutique was established. The idea about Ma Belle Avenue came over the night and I joke that it is all my pregnancy’s hormones “fault” 🙂
One evening I was checking the newest collections of Lithuanian designers on Facebook. I was missing that European style and quality here. And I knew my friends did too. That moment the idea about bringing Lithuanian fashion here just “hit” me out of nowhere. The same night I sent the first email to one of my most favorite Lithuanian designer and got the big YES the next morning. Everything else has been rolling like a snow ball 🙂
This fall my boutique will celebrate its 4th anniversary and I am excited where it’s going.
If only I’d have more hours in the day to accomplish all the ideas I have… Fashion industry is a world of creativity and I enjoy it every day.
I’ve never imagined myself in a retail business because I thought I am bad at selling things, but I grew up loving fashion. I sewed clothes for my dolls, loved styling my friends, played fashion shows, observed people in the streets, followed the latest trends in the magazines and on TV.
I am not sure what the future holds for me, but this experience is absolutely invaluable.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like there are good days and bad days in life, there are challenges and achievements in every business. I won’t lie, there have been those days when I found myself thinking “why am doing this?” Because starting a business in a foreign country without close family and business background while raising small kids wasn’t easy shortly to say. I didn’t know how to balance new business, little kids, family and life… I didn’t think and care about myself at all back then. Sleepless nights, stress, poor diet finally affected my health. And I had no other choice except to slow down and rethink. I believe we only learn from our own mistakes and I learned my lesson! I try to find balance now and take a better care of myself.
Despite that, I can’t complain much – Ma Belle Avenue has been on a quite smooth road and I feel good about it. Slowly but steady as I like to say 🙂
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ma Belle Avenue – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Chicago and I love its suburbs even more 🙂 Small towns with their slower pace are more acceptable to my personality but I love that I can experience big city life whenever I want because it is so close.
I live in Naperville which is a great place to raise a family and I work in historical downtown Hinsdale that reminds me of Europe with its small restaurants, boutiques and coffee shops.
