Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafael Murillo.
Rafael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my real estate career in 2012 working in the mortgage industry as a loan officer which made me a well-rounded real estate broker. Due to my insight in the mortgage industry I am able to service my client’s better than other brokers. Especially when working with first-time home buyers which usually need more guidance. After a few years of helping people fulfill their dream of owning a home or refinancing. I transition to the sales side of real estate. Initially the majority of my business was working with luxury renters in the downtown area. I was able to build a book of business of rentals which over the time have converted to buyers and sellers. Real estate is a relationship business and people like to do business with people they like. It’s very important to build and maintain good client relationships. I really enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them on a personal level. My business has a very strong online presence which is very important in today’s market. 80% of buyers start their search online. So I ensure to make an impact with them from the start through social media and online platforms like Google, Zillow, Yelp, etc
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Prior to my career in real estate I was in marketing which helped me have a smooth transition. I applied all of my skills in marketing to my real estate business which helped me build a good brand for myself. Social media marketing has play a major role in my success in real estate. I think the biggest struggle was not having a steady income stream at first but just like every business it takes time, dedication, hard work, and having a lot of patience. Everyone likes the idea of being in real estate and making a lot of money but they don’t want to put in the hard work. They expect fast results and business to just fall on their laps.

I specialize in the luxury real estate market in Chicago and the surrounding neighborhoods. I work with a wide variety of client’s from CEO’s, athletes, renters, investors, buyers, and sellers within all price ranges. I don’t have a preference and treat every client the same despite of their budget. You can expect to get the same level of service at all times. I am very proud of the brand that I have built for myself. I been featured on Top Agent Magazine, Chicago Agent Magazine “Who’s Who of Chicago Real Estate 2017” and I been quoted on Crain’s, Mansion Global, and most recently I was in the top 3 out of 20 real estate agents on social media via Property Spark.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am very excited to be launching a new website featuring an MLS search tool making it very easy and convenient for today’s buyers to shop online. I am investing a lot of money to drive traffic to my website which in return will generate more leads. I am planning to work more on the development side specifically with new construction.
