Meet Qiana Turner of Madison Elyse Events in Joliet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Qiana Turner.

Qiana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I initially began my business in 2011 as Propose This Event Planning. In 2013, I took some time off, as I was pregnant with my third child who was born in September 2013. She’s the only girl of six boys total, to be born in my family. She’s special. She was also born on my birthday, which makes her extra special. About 3 years later, I wanted to start back wedding and event planning but felt that because I had been gone for a while, people may have forgotten who Propose This Event Planning was. I thought maybe a new brand, a new look, a facelift if you will, was in order for me. I wanted to start fresh with a new name, new logo, and new everything! After striking out with the names I had chosen, I then thought “Hey, why don’t you name it after your baby?” And by George I did! I looked up the definition of her name – “a noble gift of the Lord.” So it was only fitting that I rename my business after her – Madison Elyse Events.

In September of 2016, my business began to take off. I had a new name, new logo, a new approach to business. I became more social media savvy with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I posted pictures of every event, gave daily wedding tidbits, started networking more and meeting other industry people. My business began to gain momentum and I was booking more and more events.

In August of 2017, I had the official Madison Elyse Events launch party! It was amazing! I actually met and booked two brides for 2018 who were guests from my launch. 2018 for us is looking pretty amazing!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all! The roads have been challenging to say the least. The struggles I have faced along the way stem from a myriad of things from lack of funding for advertising and marketing, tapping into my ideal clientele, trying to set myself apart from other wedding and event planning businesses, all the way to do I even want to do this at all. At one point I began to wonder if this was my calling. I was paying for advertising, participating as a vendor at local wedding expos, answering inquiries and not hearing anything back from people. I began to question if I had what it took to be successful. But I refused to give up!

Please tell us about Madison Elyse Events.
My company is a boutique wedding and event planning company. I specialize in full service and day of wedding planning. We also specialize in special occasion event planning such as themed birthday parties, milestone parties, babies showers, engagement parties, anniversaries, and the like. I also specialize in presentation of candy buffets and sweet tables. I provide the glassware and props for these specialty tables.

I am best known my amazing party planning skills and from what I am told, my calming spirit. It has been said multiple times over by clients and vendors that I have such a calming demeanor and can present myself calm under any situation.

I am most proud of the growth and progress I have experienced over the past year. I have had more events in 2017 than in 2016 and have more weddings and events booked for 2018 than I had in 2017 – Perseverance is the key. I have done more for my business this year than ever before from being a vendor at a wedding expo, directing my very first wedding style shoot and having a successful launch party.

I truly believe the things that set me apart from others is: 1. I am so hands-on with my events. I may custom make the centerpieces for a party just because or a custom card box for a wedding. (with my client’s approval, of course!) I love crafting, thinking creatively and using my hands to create beautiful things. 2: My ability to develop and foster amazing relationships with my clients and vendors. The people that I have planned weddings and events for have returned more than once, even twice to have M.E.E. plan their events. I have been invited to family dinners and events just because we have gotten that close. My goal with my clients is for them to feel comfortable with me as possible. So far, that has worked like a charm, but it is natural and not forced. It is just because of the person I am.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would not have waited until I was 31 to figure out that I wanted to have my business..lol. This dream has been on my mind since I was 15. But like most teenagers, my parents encouraged going to college, getting a degree, becoming a professional and working a regular job with bankers hours. I definitely would have started this journey earlier in my life.
