Today we’d like to introduce you to Paco Lebron.
Paco, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I am asked this question, I always pause in reflection. There are many ways to tell my story. The Puerto Rican kid from Humboldt Park who by perseverance escaped the gangs, the drugs and violence of the tough streets at the time or the man through personal life experiences of love, betrayal, and malice continues to strive for what he believes. Through these experiences, I’ve continued to grow as an individual helping where I can.
After receiving my B.S. in Computer Engineering, I went into Corporate America at the bright age of 21 wherein less than 10 years acquired skillsets at two online software firms and a love of technology and people. During this time, I developed the entrepreneur bug, the ability to do something on my own and make a difference. The last year has truly been great as I continue to further my place in this beautiful city.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think we both can agree that no matter where you are in life you’ve been dealt a bad hand at one point or another. I’ve had quite a few with some of them being in the last 5 years. This ranging from bad debt due to a bad decision out of love, financial hardships when the unexpected occurred, and even heartache of almost losing the most influential family member of your family. These all helped build a much more rounded person. It allowed me to understand to be resourceful rather than focusing on the lack of resources. The latter is what really sticks out to me as we talk about this. You see, there was a time I almost lost my father and as I’ve mention above. I adore my father and continues to be one of the two people I do all of this for. After an incident and trip to the hospital as I saw them patch him up it dawned on me not everything is forever. You have to ensure you pay your dues and do what you can to leave a better life than then when you came in. This is where I learned through so many events in my life that life happens for you and not to you. It’s that very reason I continue and have gotten this far in all my endeavors.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the ProdigyTeks story. Tell us more about the business.
On the surface, it may look as if we do a lot of what the big box stores currently offer our great city. What we pride ourselves is bringing back the local personal touch of convenience. We’ve been in the West Loop for going on 4 years this coming July and have developed a workflow that allows all residents and those working in the west loop a convenient stop to drop off and pick up their machines for repair. Being one of the few true computer repair shops in the area allows us to really understand what our clients need to continue their day to day with their electronics. However, it doesn’t stop there. We know that in this age we have more entrepreneurs and startups bringing their ideas to this great city but really cannot afford the big IT companies services. This is where our focus has been for small businesses with no more than 10 people in a particular business. This allows us to give them the upfront, honest feedback on how to run and scale their business.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The advancement in the IT space is truly remarkable. Devices are getting thinner with more innovative features. I really think PC repair will be around but with new advancements of Tablets, Home Automation and Communication Smart devices (Watches, Glasses). There is also the big shift in virtual and augmented reality. In 10 years, I estimate there will be similar devices for sight and integration system that will allow users to pull information of an individual and place not only at its seen but event in different points in time as if you are actually there.
I also see security will reach an all-time high attacking with Social Engineering. Although Social Engineering is nothing new the ways it’s being applied is ever growing. With the recent Microsoft Telephone Scam, Ransomware viruses encrypting people’s personal memories and documents of life work it is now more than ever we have to provide understandable education to help protect those who are unaware of such things.
