Meet Nikki Stratton of StyleMeStratton in Bucktown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Stratton.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nikki. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A couple of years back, at work (my corporate gig), I was chatting with a co-worker about a gift for his girlfriend. I sent him some ideas from Nordstrom.com and he said to me, you should make commissions on your styling efforts! I jumped on WordPress that weekend and Style Me Stratton was born. My first affiliation was with Nordstrom.com and I could not have been more excited to partner with my favorite shopping destination! From there, my affiliation network grew to include Shopbop, Gap, Athleta, COACH, Ann Taylor, Bloomingdales, Saks, OFF Saks, Neimans and so many more I can hardly count them anymore.

My site is meant to be a no frills, no pictures of me, no lengthy text type of blog for busy women looking for style direction. Stylemestratton is a niche site for the busy, working moms of Chicago and beyond who want to look good and feel good! I focus on great fitting designer dresses, new trends & classic investments while also finding the best sales and new designers!

In the past 4+ years, I’ve grown on Instagram and love posting stories showcasing new purchases; whether it’s a new pair of awesome sunnies or shoes, you’ll catch a glimpse of my fav items on Instagram stories. You’ll also catch a glimpse of my life in Chicago with my husband Jason and our three awesome boys (I LOVE to style them too!). I enjoy personal styling and absolutely love getting emails from women asking for help picking out a great new dress for an upcoming event! (HINT! email me here: nikkistrat@gmail.com)

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Struggles along the way – YES! Finding time to work on Style Me Stratton is always a challenge. That’s why you won’t see me in a bunch of pictures wearing the items I curate. Instead, you’ll see screenshots linked to the items I love and recommend. Working on growing my affiliation network did not happen overnight and growing followers and sales is also a challenge. Digging into the analytics of Style Me Stratton and focusing on the most clicked on shoes, sweaters, dresses, etc. helps me continue to refine my focus.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I like to say I help women dress better and focus on what flatters most women!

That might mean emailing my best girlfriends about a new pair of jeans I picked up for a steal that they need………. and then laughing as 5 of us are wearing those same jeans out to dinner the following week! I also enjoy helping men pick up the next designer handbag for their amazing wife on her 40th birthday… or just pulling a group of women together and going shopping. Whether we go to Nordstrom or to my dear friend Sanem’s boutique (Sanem’s is located in Oak Park, IL), it is a fantastic time when women can focus on themselves. I believe I provide the perspective of a busy mom who works full time and understands that other busy working moms don’t have the time to pull together great looking outfits/ great quality clothes. I am so on top of upcoming sales, new designers, best deals and what promos can’t be missed (think Shopbop’s big sales) that I just can’t help but spread the word!

In the end, I LOVE getting texts that read: “Should I buy this”?! I can definitely answer that for you – and I will always answer that question honestly.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is getting messages and pictures from friends and clients wearing my recommendations! I posted a pair of PJs once and I swear 5 gals messaged me! I thrive on those texts, messages, emails, and pics! Obviously, I pay attention to sales and corresponding commissions. Since I don’t charge any styling fees, the commissions are how I am paid via affiliations.
