Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Janowitz.
Nick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got to where I am today because I had some great mentors who taught me the importance of Hard Work. My love for sports and fitness is where it all started for me. I started my athletic career in soccer and wrestling. At the age of 18, I joined the US Navy and became a member of the ALL NAVY Wrestling team. Being surrounded by some of the best athletes in the world on a day to day basis pushed me to a whole new level. In 2007, I turned Professional as a Mixed Martial Arts Fighter. I hold an undefeated record of 5-0 and fought in February for the first time in 10yrs. During those 10 years away from competition, I started a family and my own business as well as healed some injuries. I had a hip replacement 4yrs ago. Coming back after a 10 year lay off and a hip replacement may be my greatest athletic accomplishment. I do hope to get a shot in the UFC or Bellator by the end of the year. I love to compete even if it’s against myself. I have walked for 24 hours straight and broken multiple fitness world records including the most pull-ups in 6 hours (3,650), 12 hours (5,742) and 24 hours (7,621). I have also broken the 12 hour burpee record (7,130) and 24 hour (10,164). I have coached thousands of athletes ranging from grade school to professional and I am currently the strength coach for several local schools and sports clubs. One of my greatest joys in life is watching my clients and athletes conquering their goals and reaching heights they never could imagine. Earlier this year, I launched my own podcast Taking Punches With The Patriot. It is available on Itunes and Podbean. This is something that I really enjoy and can’t wait to do more of. Something that I am really excited for is that I will be launching my own Made in the USA clothing line Patriot Sports Performance by the end of the summer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life should be smooth. If it is, then you aren’t living. The biggest struggle for me has probably been money! I started my gym with 3k dollars to my name. Starting a gym with barely any money was a huge obstacle to overcome. So, in order to start my gym, I lived the American Dream… I maxed out every credit card I could get my hands on. It’s probably not the best way to start a business but here I am 9 yrs later and Im still in business.
Patriot Sports Performance – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a results oriented fitness and sports facility. We specialize in group exercise classes (Boxing, Kickboxing, Yoga, Spin, etc.) as well as sports performance. We train a wide variety of athletes from professional to young children in sports specific training. We also specialize in weight loss programs. At Patriot, we truly feel we have something for everyone.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my athletic career happened in February when I stepped back into the Professional MMA cage after a 10 year lay off and a hip replacement. I believe I’m the only Professional athlete to compete in a Pro competition other than Bo Jackson. From a business standpoint, each new day brings my proudest moment.
