Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Simone.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started theNSider in 2016 while still working at ABC 7 News here in Chicago, During a time when there were so much negativity surrounding us: police brutality and senseless killings were on the rise resulting in riots all over the world, I was motivated to create something that could be a breath of fresh air for people to engage in. While working as a field producer at Channel 7, I honed my skills as an interviewer, which soon became my passion.
I loved meeting and connecting with people and hearing their different stories. It honestly became difficult to not get attached to a story at times, especially when you have a mother mourning over the loss of her child or a family who’s lost everything after a tornado hit and destroyed their home. I realized, though I was blessed with the opportunity to work at Channel 7 News, I knew that news wasn’t for me. Upon this realization, I had to figure out what’s next? What’s my purpose?
As I started investing more time into “theNSider”, all of those unanswered questions at the time started to become crystal clear. I knew my purpose was to create a show based on acknowledging individuals around Chicago who were doing amazing things! From entrepreneurs, musicians, chefs, activist, etc. My goal was to shed a positive light on my city (and eventually the world) that was overshadowed by negativity while creating a platform for those who wanted and more importantly need their voices to be heard and services to be known.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, not at all!! Lbs. There’s been plenty of times I wanted to throw in the towel and disappear. I had so many ideas that I put out that didn’t align with my brand just to “keep up” and put out content. Sometimes you can let social media make you feel like you’re not doing enough like you’re not good at what you do and should just quit. STOP! Do not let social media, another human being, lack of supports, finances deter you from your purpose. I’ve gone through all of that and then some. Still go through this honestly, but when you’re truly passionate about something, eat, sleep and breathe it, you’re not going to give up that easily, period. I’ve learned that it’s OK to have 2 real supporters vs 1000 tag alongs. That it’s completely fine to take a break for yourself. I’ll take the struggle any day! It reminds me to always remain humble in what’s to come.
Please tell us about theNSiderTV.
I am the Host and Creator of my web series/tv series/blog “theNSider.” I interview people all across Chicago, who have stories that I believe should be heard. I give business owners and entrepreneurs a platform an opportunity to gain more exposure. I connect with individuals whose stories have been a true blessing not only in my life but in others lives, that’s what I’m most proud of.
What sets me apart from others I would say, I’m not doing this for fame, for personal gain, I’m doing this because I know it’s my God-given talent and purpose. I’m doing this to show my daughter that she can do anything that her heart desires and that all of this is for her. I’m doing this to bring people together from all walks of life and touch on issues that need to be spoken about and for our people who have been stereotyped, mistreated. misrepresented for years.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
How carefree being a child was! No worries, just living. As an adult, we can forget to do that. I was shy when I was younger, but when it came to entertainment, music, theater, dance, you could tell me anything! I always remember creating my movies, shows and music videos in my head and acting it out. I remember I use to write songs and had dreams of acting and singing, being on stage. Just dreaming.
