Meet Morgan Evancic and Jessie and Maegan Baetz of Color Me Bright Preschool in Lisle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Evancic and Jessie and Maegan Baetz.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Dreams do come true! Together, my 2 sisters and I opened Color Me Bright Preschool of the Arts in May 2016. The arts have always played a large role in our lives growing up. With endless amounts of tutus and tap shoes, we never grew tired of learning and performing as dancers. It gave us the confidence, discipline, and originality to eventually pursue our own business. Ball State University provided us collectively with degrees in Entrepreneurship, Dance, and Elementary Education (Go Cardinals!). As this point, Maegan and Jessie fell in love with teaching preschool dance classes at a local studio, while I became part of a preschool program and quickly advanced to Director. No amount of runny noses and meltdowns could keep us away… we were hooked on teaching little ones! With her background in education, Jessie kept expressing how many learning standards and goals she implements in her dance classes. Lightbulb moment! Preschool + Arts = Innovation! A preschool of the arts would be such a fun way to share our passion for both educating and the arts. From here, our idea took off!

Has it been a smooth road?
Year 1 is complete! It has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, but one we would ride over and over again. Because all 3 of us still had our full-time jobs, it was a lot of late night renovations. With the help of our father, who is an entrepreneur himself, we completely turned the rented space upside down to reflect our philosophy. Who knew knocking down a wall could be so much fun! After only 2 months of renovations, the once empty unit now made our preschool vision tangible. Now all we needed were little learners to fill the tiny chairs in the classroom. Through constant marketing and word of mouth, we are proud to say nearly all of our preschool classes are full for this upcoming school year!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Color Me Bright Preschool – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Color Me Bright is not your average preschool! As an art-integrated preschool, our main goal is to inspire creativity in little learners. We emphasize the importance of activating the whole body to create new understandings of traditional concepts. During creative activity, both sides of the brain are working at full speed towards optimal comprehension. Above all, our creative curriculum is plain and simple FUN! What other preschools have a separate room dedicated just to art, and a large dance studio to move and groove in? Our students love getting up on our mini stage to sing their favorite tunes or bust out some moves in our studio. These exclusive rooms also allow us to have specialized classes for ALL young children in the community. Our Art Expression programs range from dance to art classes that serve as another outlet for inspiring creative minds. “Don’t mind the mess, we’re learning here!”

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What’s best about our city is that we sure are one of a kind! Chicago is made up of such a wide range of people, full of varying needs and interests. We’re not afraid of straying from the norm and coloring outside of the lines. Reaching this unique set of standards is what motivates us to continue to create and implement innovative programs. With an increasing emphasis on state standardized testing at the Elementary level, we strive to remind our city that children should still be encouraged to be creative and inventive. Let’s all color outside of the lines together!
