Meet Michelle Chicago of Michelle Chicago Real Estate Group (MCREGroup)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Chicago.

Michelle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My background is in business management, my undergrad is in this field as well. I was in international logistics for approximately 17 years and decided I needed a change from corporate life and sitting in a car for approximately 1.5 to 2-hour commute traffic each way every day. Real estate was always something that interested me and I wanted to help people, so I decided to take the leap of faith that it could be the right career choice for me.

After many long discussions with my husband and the chance of making no money with zero experience in real estate, I decided after 6 months to quit my logistics world and jump in full time as a REALTOR in 2012. I made almost no money my first year after paying out marketing expenses, taxes, dues, fees, etc. However, I was never happier to be free of my long commute, stress of the corporate life, and being able to be home to walk my dog and the neighbor dogs. I knew this was the right decision for me and that I was going to be a REALTOR for life. I slowly built trust with former colleagues, friends, and built my business from the ground up.

I decided early on that I would become #1 for my clients at communication, trust, results, experience, ethics (CTREE). I have now added education to that list. I realize that continuing education is what ensures that I am continuing to provide my clients with the most up-to-date information, technology, innovations, and much more. Therefore, I am pursuing my Master’s degree in Real Estate at DePaul University. I also get as many designations from Chicago Association of REALTORS and National Association of REALTORS that I believe will help myself and my clients achieve our common goals whether that is investments, home ownership, or selling properties.

I started my team in 2017, so far it is comprised of 2 agents that work alongside me Amanda Herholdt and Art Z. Arguijo. They are both buying and selling agents like myself. We typically work territory based areas and help each other out as needed. We can service all of Chicago and Chicagoland areas. We are currently looking for another team member to join our winning group by the end of this year.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road to get to where I am today has been pretty smooth, except for finding new clients when I first started out. Changing careers is a lot harder than one would think! Home buying, selling, and investing takes trust and to have someone trust that you are the one that should help them takes time, intimacy, trust, and even friendship. I needed to gain that with people starting off in this business and making them understand that I knew what I was doing in the first year was hard, as with anything new.

Now with experience, it is a bit easier, however, it is still about trust and relationships. I want all my clients to understand that they are not just a transaction to me, they are my real estate family. I got into this business to help people and that’s what I love about my career. If I help one person and that one person tells another about it, this is what helps to build trust. Referrals are the lifeline of my business and I appreciate every single one I receive. It tells me I have done something right, helped someone, and they trusted me enough to tell others.

HOW IT WORKS: We meet or chat over the phone to discuss your needs, then we work to find the best plan of action to meet your desired outcome.

Selling: We will come to your property and provide you a free in-home estimate of your property value & discuss pricing, your motivation to sell, where you intend to move, updates you have done & time frame to move, etc. You will then sign a listing agreement, stage your property, take professional photographs, and prelist, then go-live on the MLS – THEN GET YOUR PROPERTY SOLD!

Buyer: We will ask you what you are looking for on you and/or your families wish list or must have the list, location, timeline, budget, preapproval/proof of funds. Then sign an agreement of agency, set you up w/ lending options if needed, shop online, provide a proof of funds, & start shopping – THEN FIND YOUR DREAM PROPERTY/HOME.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe the outlook for Chicago and Chicagoland is great! I think that we will continue to see a decent percentage of growth year over year in home values and also continue to see homes sales increase. I see industry bringing back population into the Chicago metro areas as well as the outskirt urban areas such as Evanston, Oak Park, River Forest, Portage Park, Jefferson Park, Edison Park, and Skokie.

I believe many downsizers will tend to stay out of the city and hone in on these more urban-like areas in smaller condos or small to medium sized single family homes. I also believe that many from the city that wants to upsize their homes may stop in these areas to consider the larger homes, rather than go too far into the suburbs.
