Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael and Damian Ratulowski.
Michael and Damian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We are a family owned and operated business that started way back in 1995, originally my father ran the business under the name Holland Glass and Art Studio. Until the economy crashed in 2007 he lost everything due to unpaid work which caused my father to close the doors. We had such a passion in glass art that we knew we had to do something to stay alive during the economical crash.
So my father and I took glass to a whole other level and started creating glass art and such decorative art glass that no one can resist. We had bought a glass kiln to allow us to create endless masterpieces such as glass sinks, glass counter tops, textured glass and much more. We knew there was high demand for these particular pieces. We had to make it sell so we started to advertise about 2 yrs. ago which has open the doors for us with so many opportunities to work with designers as well with contractors and homeowners to create one of a kind glass pieces. We now do it all, we specialize in glass doors, glass shower enclosures, custom shower enclosures, glass sinks, glass countertops, glass backsplashes, stained glass windows, antique mirrors, distressed mirrors, custom mirrors, glass floors, glass stairs, glass railings, decorative glass, and the list goes on. We love what we do and we would not want nothing more but to create beautiful art glass and decorate the city with beautiful, colorful glass art. My father originally started 40yrs ago creating stained glass lamps which everyone has probably seen once in their life. He was crafting the stained-glass lamps that were in every bar or pool hall over the pool tables. They were the Old Style beer lamps, as well with the Budweiser lamps as well. He stopped as they started to drift away that and open the door to the first shop which was known as Holland Glass and Art, his passion would not drift as the lamps did so he started crafting Tiffany Lamps which most people are probably also familiar with. So as he lost his business on 2007 I saw my father passion slowly drifting away since he had no hope it would ever come back. So I took it to another level and made sure his passion for what he loved to do would never drift from his heart. So I opened Ultimate Glass Art in 2003 so he can keep his passion growing. We are all artist in this family which take very great pride in glass work. So from a shower enclosure or to a stained glass window, we take every project as if it was an art piece. This is what differs us from most glass companies.
Has it been a smooth road?
There were a lot of struggles since we did not have a lot of money we just had a passion. So you can imagine how difficult it was to get to where we are now. It still is a struggle when you are a small business. It is difficult to achieve a lot of things when you have a small balance. Along with my father losing everything from the economical crash. We had a few developers we worked with in the past that really put my father in a bad situation and left him no choice but to sell everything he invested into the business. So we are still slowly paying for it.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ultimate Glass Art – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize daily in custom shower enclosures, custom mirrors, stained glass, and decorative glass. We are proud of our custom kiln that allows us to make limitless ideas with glass, such as custom glass counter tops, custom sinks, and textured glass which are one of a kind pieces. Our passion for glass and art glass is what sets us apart from others. We take on every project as if it were our own art piece.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the fact that there are so many people in the city that admire what we do. Along with the fact that it is the best city to live in. My father came he 40 yrs. ago with a passion in art glass and was able to start his own business doing what he loved. That is what my father loves the most about the city. The least that we like about the city is the people that ruin our city and created the economy to crash and put us in a tough situation and almost left us to give up our passion.
