Meet Michael Choe of Choe Chiropractic and Acupuncture Clinic in Buffalo Grove

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Choe.

Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a small town of Livingston, NJ and after graduating high school I attended Penn State University, State College. While at Penn State, I met a chiropractor that worked at Gold’s Gym and I was really fascinated with how he worked with athletes and his method of treating them. I was always interested in healthcare but chose to go the more natural route after meeting this chiropractor and also being exposed to Eastern Medicine growing up. After graduating Penn State with a Bachelors in Microbiology, I attended the National College of Chiropractic in Illinois. The 4 year program at National College of Chiropractic were rigorous but prepared me well to practice the art of chiropractic and acupuncture. After graduating from National, I immediately started working and fine tuning my skills. I moved from town to town over the years and have worked with many great doctors until I finally settled in Wheeling/Buffalo Grove area.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I feel that I have a very successful practice today but it had been a struggle over the years. I think the hardest part of starting out in any healthcare or medical practice is getting your name out there and letting people know what you do. The first few years were difficult trying to establish yourself and trying to make yourself stand out. Over the years, I was able to network with individuals with similar values and goals and have developed a great relationship with other healthcare providers. Running a business is difficult in itself but luckily I have a great staff that helps with the day to day operations of the office.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Choe Chiropractic and Acupuncture Clinic – what should we know?
I’ve been in practice now for over 18 years and my office implements several methods of treatment. I utilize chiropractic care to help people live and function with less pain and greater mobility. I’ve been also utilizing acupuncture for not only pain management but also for infertility, stress/anxiety disorders, migraines and seasonal allergies to name a few. I specialize in sports injuries and have worked with many professional athletes. I have a passion for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and have worked with many amateur and professional MMA fighters including fighters with the UFC.

What I’m most proud of is that we do our best to implement the greatest care for that individual in terms of what would be best for them. If its chiropractic care I have different techniques that would be suitable for senior citizens to young children. If its acupuncture, I have a very gentle technique of inserting needles to calm even those afraid of needles.

It’s a very rewarding profession as you also get to develop a relationship with families that trust you with their care. Over the 18 years in practice, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing young patients grow up to be adults and now I’m taking care of their children. I’ve also developed great relationships with Physical Therapists, Neurologists, Rheumatologists and Internists so that we refer patients should they require medical intervention.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I am where I am thanks in part to several people I have met along this path. My wife of 13 years have been my best supporter and also a great inspiration that provides me with sound advice not only in business but also in life. Dr. Krueger has been a mentor to me for over 10 years and gave me an opportunity to not only learn but also share our experiences. Dr. Kaeske opened my eyes to how fun practicing chiropractic care can be. I am forever grateful to these 2 doctors and my wife for making me who I am today.
