Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Mackie.
Max, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started making art at a young age, mainly sketching portraits of my friends and family using pencil and charcoal. As a teen, I experimented with marker and ink to produce fashion illustrations. Around the same time, I discovered a website called Deviant Art — an online community for artists. I noticed many of the members posted digitally illustrated works and instantly fell in love with the medium. I change my mind a lot, so digital illustration seemed like the perfect way to express my ideas. I spent about 2 years illustrating cartoon characters and pop culture icons to post on the site. I took about a four year break from art and started illustrating again in late 2017.
Today, my work is inspired by pop culture, advertisements, fashion and minimalism.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have struggled to keep making art. In a world filled with brilliant visionaries, it is easy to get discouraged and not feel like you are good enough.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Max Mackie story. Tell us more about the business.
I am launching a website Spring 2018. It will showcase a portfolio of my work, along with prints and original pieces for sale. www.mrmaxmackie.com
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am lucky to have friends and family who support my vision and buy my stuff.
