Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Rigo.
Maria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Back in 2001 I started as a personal trainer at a privately owned tennis and fitness club. A few years later I became the Group Fitness Manager, then the Fitness Manager. I’m passionate about Pilates and movement and helped our club build a state of the art Pilates studio while going through a comprehensive Pilates certification along with 8 of my fellow staff. In 2012 a friend introduced me to The MELT Method. This changed everything for me. The MELT Method is not exercise but a self-care technique that allows people to get themselves out of chronic pain by tapping into the Connective Tissue and Nervous Systems, something we call the Neuro-Fascia System. In 2013 I started my MELT journey. Over the last few years I have completed Hand and Foot Training, Level 1 and 2 and this August will go through training for Neuro Strength. Neuro Strength is the next step in helping people get and stay out of pain by teaching reintegration for the Neuromuscular system.
In 2015, I formed Boundless Balance. Owning my own company has allowed me to work with each of my clients on an individual basis combining all of these disciplines as needed. I train out of a private studio in Westmont where I have access to both Pilates, MELT and traditional exercise equipment. I offer MELT Workshops and Corporate Wellness throughout the Western Suburbs and I love my job!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part I’d have to say yes. There are always challenges, but that’s how we learn, grow and get better. Being a one woman show, I’ve learned to plow right through to keep moving forward. It’s also essential to ask for help when needed.
Boundless Balance – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Boundless Balance was established in 2015. The largest part of my business is private clients and workshops. I’d have to say my specialty is getting people to feel better. We use a combination of MELT, Pilates and proper biomechanics to get the body moving with more ease. Stability, balance, strength and endurance are important aspects of keeping the body moving for life. Over the last several years I’ve become known for working with tennis players and golfers, and those who suffer from back, neck, knee and shoulder pain. In 2016 I studied Pilates for Neurological conditions which helps me help those suffering from MS, Parkinsons and stroke even more.
I am most proud when clients walk in for a session in pain and leave with less pain and feeling great. I also love when teaching a whole room to MELT. They finish and they feel so much better and have the knowledge and tools to make themselves feel better everyday.
Being a one-woman operation sets me apart from others. From answering the first questions a prospective client has, to setting up their schedule, to training, and checking in on them. They work with just one person, me. My clients become like family. It’s extremely rewarding to know I’ve touched so many people’s lives and they’ve become part of mine.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
That’s a tricky one. I guess successfully finishing my first full year of owning my own business. Everyday I’m proud of the work that my clients and I do together. Seeing them succeed and grow is probably the best part of my day.
