Today we’d like to introduce you to Marguerite Holland.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Back in 2007 I was forced to make one of the best decisions of my life and leave behind my office job. Skin care and makeup had always been a passion of mine and so I decided to pursue a career in Esthetics. I finished esthetics school and became an Illinois State Licensed Esthetician in 2008. Woo Hoo! I was on my way to pursuing my dream job as an esthetician in a salon. For the next 7 years, I worked diligently at expanding my skill set, earning the trust and respect of my clients, and getting a valuable education on the ins, outs, ups and downs of the salon industry. In 2015 I found myself at a crossroads and again, made another great life decision. I branched out on my own, joined Macaluso’s Suite Salons and opened Marguerite’s Skin Care & Makeup. Running my own suite has truly been a rewarding experience. I am blessed with fabulous clients, expanding my education even more and growing by leaps and bounds. My career has truly become my passion and I am excited to share it every day.
Has it been a smooth road?
Is anything ever really a smooth road? Not really, that is what forces us to grow and become the people we are today. It is not easy to build a clientele. It takes a lot of time, hard work and persistence. You have got to be willing to really work hard, put in the time and be patient. Sometimes it is easy to get frustrated and just want to give up, but for every time I felt that way, I am so glad that I fought my way through it. I have no regrets about my career decisions or the paths I have chosen, even the ones that failed or didn’t turn out as planned. The lessons I learned from that are so valuable and allow me to move forward a stronger individual.
The other greatest struggle is learning to take criticism and grow from it. We tend to be people pleasers in this industry. It’s the cornerstone of what we do. However, you cannot please everyone all the time and that is ok. Maybe your style doesn’t match the person you are working with. Sometimes you have to put your best effort forth, do what you can to help someone, accept what they have to say and agree to move on. This can be one of the biggest hurdles to overcome. We tend to over analyze and it can really box you in and stagnate you. This goes for everything from dealing with bosses to clients.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I work closely with my clients to get their skin in the best shape possible. My clients benefit from my extensive training in facials, chemical peels, anti-aging treatments, facial massage, acupressure, acne, and sensitive skin. I have also has completed a course in Skin Care for Oncology Clients through Greet the Day. This course has truly made a difference in my life and skin care practice. If you are in active treatment or have a history of cancer treatment, please let me know. With the specialized training I received through Greet the Day, I am able to safely deliver a skin care treatment for your unique needs.
My personal philosophy is that is all starts with the skin. When the skin is in shape everything else falls in place the way it should from a silky smooth wax, to a flawless makeup application or a safe natural looking tan!
I offer full body waxing using Satin Smooth Hard and Soft waxes. And, I am also a certified Eyebrow Artist. In addition to this, I am a fully trained Makeup Artist. I do everything from Airbrush Makeup to Fantasy/Halloween Makeup and Makeup Lessons.
I am always looking for ways to make you feel incredible! My training is my top priority and I am always looking for new and affordable services to offer. The power of touch can do amazing things for a person and I want to make sure you leave the treatment room feeling ready for the world.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Chicago and the surrounding suburbs are a fantastic place for the beauty industry. I would definitely recommend our great city to someone who is starting out. I feel that with our fast paced busy lifestyle, people are always looking for ways to escape and do something that just makes them feel good. There are many great employers looking for talented estheticians, as well as, many great clients!
