Meet Marcus Nogood of Enjoy Music Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Nogood.

Marcus is a 21-year-old hip-hop recording artist based out of the south shore side of Chicago, IL. Marcus is also 1/4th of the music collective known as Enjoy Music Group. Putting out 3 projects since 2015, he’s developed a diverse, unique sound as well as solidifying a household name from the city to the southwest suburbs, considering that Marcus has spent a majority of his life living back and forth in the Chicagoland area. With little to no industry connections, he’s managed to work with the likes of familiar artists such as – Mick Jenkins, Saba & Supa Bwe, etc. Marcus continues to grow his brand/artistry with intentions on working with many more new artists this year.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t believe that anyone’s path is perfectly paved… I have definitely been through a few speed bumps along the way, but I was always able to channel a lot of that energy back into my drive and craft which is what motivates me to keep doing what I do best.

I’ve dealt with a lot of promoters who may have mistreated me or one of my artists at local gigs due to our lack of credibility once upon a time.

I’ve also been in a few situations with producers where it may be a misunderstanding which led to business not being handled properly on the other end.

But that’s how the game goes and I believe that you have to come into this industry with the mindset that not everything will go as accordingly. You have to be strong enough to bounce back from any letdowns. Because when becoming an artist; the world could be full of discouragement, as long as you know why you do it and who you do it for – you cannot be stopped.

Please tell us about Enjoy Music Group.
Enjoy Music Group (EMG), is a collective of 4 artists including myself, the Founder. EMG consists of some of the most very talented people that I know, which so happens to be some of my best friends. To me, EMG is family first before anything, and I believe that’s what sets us apart from others. We started in a basement around the ages 13-14 recording with little to nothing compared to the state of the art equipment that we are using today. As of October 2016, I officially licensed EMG as our own publishing company, therefore when my artists and I release our music to the world, we can keep track/collect royalties when it’s due.

I have big plans for EMG, it’s always been a dream of mine to build it into a huge record label where we’ll help brand, market and manage artists similar to ourselves.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have worked with more people, focused on building and maintaining certain relationships because relationships are everything in this business, and I would reach out to different outlets more often like I do now. But the lack of all those things were all apart of learning the game, leading me up to where I am now. I never really had help doing this stuff, so I want to be able to get myself in the position to help unguided talent in the future.
