Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynda Remus.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Years ago, when people would ask me what my hobby was, or what I liked to do in my free time, I honestly didn’t have an answer. Of course, I felt silly answering them with ‘nothing much’, but little did I know, I just hadn’t discovered the joy of photography yet. I’m so glad I did because now I not only have an answer to their question (ha ha!) but I have something that I’m passionate about. I have something that I love, something that drives me, moves me. Photography is a form of art for me. It’s my ‘me’ time.
I’ve only recently come to love the art of photography in the last 3 years. Sure, I have been taking photos since my childhood years (Polaroids anyone?), however, turning it into an art didn’t happen until 3 years ago. I bought my first DSLR camera, learned a whole bunch of photography stuff, and have taken off since then. I am self taught, which means I’ve spent countless hours reading, attending workshops, watching you tube tutorials, and of course, chasing my 5 children (and anyone else who would let me) around with my camera. It’s a gift and I’m very thankful for it.
I decided to start Sweet By & By Photography after a few people asked me to photograph their family. After that, I had numerous requests for various types of photography needs.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, it has been a pretty smooth road. I can only take on so many clients at a time due to the needs of having a large family. However, during the busy season it can get a bit hectic. Many people don’t realize how many hours photographers spend editing photos after the photo session. I’m thankful for being able to set my own schedule.
Please tell us about Sweet By & By Photography.
Sweet By & By Photography specializes in family portraiture and natural light photography. The photos I take are known for capturing the special connection/bond between people. I prefer the candid, natural, story-telling style of photography. I love to capture the raw, real connection between families, children, and couples. I am mainly a family/child photographer but I do occasionally photograph weddings, engagements, special events, high school seniors, maternity, newborn and head shots.
One thing I absolutely love is getting to know my clients and building special relationships with them. I like to think of my photo sessions as a fun time where I get to hang out with my clients. I often become friends with most of my clients and I think that is awesome. I love to be able to witness my repeat clients grow over the years. It means so much to me when my clients come back to me for their yearly family photos.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s in sunny California. So, my favorite childhood memory is staying outside ALL DAY LONG – literally until the sun went down. My friends and I would ride our bikes, play in the dirt, climb trees, play in the sun, run around playing tag, hide and go seek, all the things childhood should really be. One of my favorite games was when my big brother and I would stand in the sun on our sidewalk and jump over the passing cars shadows. I know it’s so simple – but I cherish those simple memories.
