Meet Liz Bobak of Ela Bobak Blog in the Southwest Suburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Bobak.

Liz, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my blog because I wanted something to focus on and keep my mind busy. I love being organized and planning things out and this was perfect for me. I had a blog for a hot second with a friend back in 2010, but we only had probably 5 posts. For my current blog, I went live on June 26, 2017, and launched with 7 posts and had a ton ready to go. From there, I posted on Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and anywhere possible to get my name out there. I also have been vlogging and posting videos on YouTube – funny thing is that in high school, I used to make videos of me and my friends for fun so this is weirdly such a natural path for me. I try to make any event that seems like a great networking place and that’s another way to get your name out there! Joining Windy City Blogger Collective in Chicago is a great resource to get the event info and possible collaborations with brands. Currently, I’ve done collaborations with Call It Spring, Giani Paint, Beyond Paint, Skyn Studio, Erickson Derm, Face Halo, etc. I love this business and I can’t wait to keep on going!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s not always a smooth road. I still get stressed out about whether I’m sticking correctly to my theme on Instagram or if I’m edited my photos in a way to get more engagement. I second guess that stuff. Same with my blog, I always look at other bloggers and that’s the worse thing you can do. You have to stick to who you are. Not everyone is going to be a travel blogger and have amazing photos. Not everyone is going to have an editorial theme like @tezza. It’s just something us up and coming bloggers need to realize. Better to stay true to who you are and that’s when the followers come.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I do EVERYTHING when it relates to my blog and social media channels. I edit my own photos, I come up with blog posts, I do my own Instagram, I edit my vlogs and videos. I reach out to brands to collaborate. I handle all my financials of the money I’ve made so far. I started the blog as an outlet to share a lot of my home remodel projects and share how I did a lot of it for cheap and honestly I love finding things for a bargain so I would say that’s what I’m good at. I’m proud of the fact that I’ve done all these brand collaborations with less than 5000 Instagram followers. That keeps me going and I know I can do even more with my brand.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was actually a bit insecure. I was insecure about my height so to have a blog now and dress for my petite body, I get excited to show other young girls how you can still look cute and you should be confident about your size! Other than that I was actually pretty talkative, hyper (if I knew the people) For my last day of high school, I brought in my parent’s huge camcorder and I videotaped some of my classes and walking down the halls for the last time. I’d love to play it at a reunion – my 10 years is actually coming up next year! Picking a college, I knew I wasn’t meant for a state school, so I went to Columbia Chicago and majored in Fashion Business and loved it. I always loved fashion but I didn’t know it could be a promising career until then.
