Meet LightSpace Pilates & Wellness in Lincoln Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to LightSpace Pilates & Wellness.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The four of us, Allison, Annie, Beth, and Lisa all worked together as Pilates instructors at another studio in Chicago. While we all loved our work and felt that we were helping people rehab from injuries through Pilates, it became apparent that our clients needed something more…stress release, energizing, and healing on a deeper level.

That’s where Qigong enters the scene. We were introduced to the practice of Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”), a movement-based mediation system, and immediately noticed an impact on our own lives and Pilates practice. So naturally we began to evolve our teaching to include it!

Fast forward a year, the opportunity presented itself for us to open our own studio dedicated entirely to our fusion of Pilates and Qigong – and voila! LightSpace Pilates & Wellness became a reality!

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part yes, LightSpace has been pretty fortunate.

Our biggest challenge is when clients come in expecting a more traditional Pilates experience – fast movements, emphasis on strict breathing patterns, lots of planks, etc. So needless to say we’re not a fit for some people, and that’s ok!

But on the flip side, some folks discover that we are EXACTLY what they were looking for but didn’t know it until they walked in the door for their first session.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with LightSpace Pilates & Wellness – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We’re proud of our ability to completely tailor sessions and classes to the unique needs of our clients on a given day. And the fusion of Pilates and Qigong makes that possible because the practices complement each other.

Qigong movements and meditation help release superficial physical tension and energetic blockages that create imbalances in posture and alignment, often leading to injury. These blockages often take the form of muscular tension or “knots”, stress and anxiety, or injury, all of which can prevent proper postural alignment and movement.

Once this superficial physical tension is released, it is MUCH easier to activate the deeper core muscles of the abdominal wrap. These muscles are particularly difficult to access, but provide stability, support, and flexibility for more efficient movement patterns.

The result? An awesome workout for the physical body combined with improved energetic flow. And the amazing feeling of having meditated for an hour.

Basically, healthier and more efficient movement in every aspect of your life!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
