Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Janis.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up school wasn’t always my favorite. It was really hard for me to focus on the classes that I didn’t really care about. Writing, however, was my kind of thing. Every time I had to write a paper for a class, I found it very enjoyable and easy. When people started to ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say a writer or dentist. When it came time to go to college and start a career, I decided to go with dentistry. Eventually, I started to feel like that wasn’t what I was meant to do in life. Then, life happened, I got married, moved away and that is during the time that I started my blog. At the time, I had started my journey with personal development which is why I named the blog Sweetest Journey. In blogging, I have found a sense of freedom to express myself and I have also found that I can inspire people through my words, which has truly been the best feeling!
Please tell us about your art.
I like to define myself as a writer. My focus with my blog and my Instagram page is to always create content that is inspirational yet relatable. Social media has this bad reputation nowadays of being a place of comparison, competition, and judgment, and I really want to help change that. I truly believe social media can be used for something positive. It can be a place where people come together and share their creativity and be themselves. So, when people come across my page I want it to be a place where they not only find some kind of inspiration but also feel comfortable, happy, and welcome.
What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I believe that the world is becoming more open-minded, therefore, that gives us artists more freedom to express ourselves through our creativity.
