Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Urbanus.
Kristin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My mission is to help people connect to and live more according to their values, empower them with tools and practices to become more accepting of and able to shift difficult emotions, give them the support and accountability to help them reach goals they seek to achieve, and help them gain positive momentum to move their lives forward.
I began practicing yoga when I was living in the South of Spain. I was starting a business there, and began doing yoga for the balance and awareness that it helped bring to my life. When I moved to Chicago a few years later, I knew that it was going to become a big part of my life.
I always loved the idea of becoming a life coach, but when I entered my first week of training and began to ask questions and connect with people over their personal values system, deepest desires, past disappointments and began to see the positive impact of this work, I knew that I had been “in training” for a very long time.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The life-coaching part of the business has come easily right from the beginning. To be let into someone else’s inner world and help them move forward from where they are is an honor and a privilege which I find incredibly fulfilling.
The learning curve has been on the business side of things. This meant becoming an entrepreneur in order to do what I love. This means learning about marketing, technology, the challenge of working by myself and creating my own structure and deadlines, and putting myself out there in ways that I had previously not done before. The most rewarding part is working with clients and collaborating with other teachers and coaches.
Kristin Urbanus – Life Coaching & Yoga – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
In addition to being a life coach, I am also a yoga teacher which means that I am able to help clients connect to their body and breathe in a way that is gentle yet empowering. I have been in the personal growth realm for many years and have training in many areas which means that I can pull from a plethora of tools and resources that bring clients to a new perspective, place of understanding, or action point.
I am passionate and invested in the well-being of my clients. When they experience personal growth, success and transformation, it is a success for me. On that same token when a client is going through a difficult time, to be with them in that space is equally as rewarding.
My proudest moments come in being alongside someone as they grow, and knowing that the work that we’ve done is a catalyst for that. For example, when a client reaches a goal or comes to a new perspective or possibility that they didn’t previously see possible for themselves, when they discover a practice or tool that empowers them, or when they discover a new part of themselves that they were not in contact with before. These mark my proudest moments.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is doing what I love, spending time with the important people in my life, practicing presence, and growing and constantly discovering more (about life, others, and what we are capable of). It does not mean that there won’t be challenges, but if we are growing in the direction that we want to move in, that to me is success.
