Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Pringle.
Kenneth, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In March of 2008 while attending our companies Sales Conference, we were handed an envelope while listening to our VP of Sales state that we are no longer a sales driven organization due corporate concerns about the delinquencies of our portfolio. We would now become a credit driven company going forward.
We were then told to open our envelope. At that moment, most of us (the sales force) were thinking it was a pink slip. Instead, it was a letter from our president stating there would be a 25% increase in quota’s across the board as well as for some of us a notification (if attached) being put on a 90 day sales probation.
With a notification attached it was at that time that I realized I had one of four options:
1) Continue under immense pressure to meet their unrealistic goals.
2) Find another company to work for, Which at that time companies were letting their people go as well.
3) Start a whole new career path.
4) Find the power from within to start my own company.
For me option four became the clear choice, the only choice.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road by far. The first five years was a real struggle as the economy tanked. No one was purchasing new equipment and the ones who would turn to us for financing, many couldn’t get approved as many of our lending partners disappeared.
The vendors that I brought over with me many of them merged with other companies, downsized their sales force or closed their doors.
It has challenged me, my business and my family. It became mind over matter and a constant re-assessment of what the business was doing; multiple times. Every step of the way telling myself that I can do this and conquer all the challenges thrown our way.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
CPR Finance & Associates is a nationwide equipment finance facilitator. We assist clients and their equipment needs to lending partners who we know will lend to the clients based on their credit and their ability to pay.
We are a financing generalist, with a focus on small to mid-size businesses who have needs up to $250,000. We know that most of today’s well known lenders cannot and will not spend the time to have their reps focus on these smaller deals. Many of these clients are turned away as they can’t generate the needed volume for their reps to spend the necessary time to assist these clients therefore, giving us the opportunity to come in and help the client with their needs.
We are most proud of our ability to service the clients needs and in most cases exceed their expectations. By taking the time to peel back the layers of the onion to understand our clients and their needs is what separates CPR Finance from our competitors. Many times we offer solutions that many of our clients never knew existed or could get. Many of these clients become repeat customers and is the #1 reason for CPR Finance’s success.
What were you like growing up?
I was a sports nut growing up. I also grew up in an era with some of the greatest bands who played the greatest music for generations to come. My goal was to play sports in college and learn become a sports announcer or become a DJ playing the music I grew up with.
I reached both of those goals as I received a scholarship to a school in Western Kentucky for Basketball and Track but after a knee injury during the season I learned the hard way that sports would only become a life’s lesson. It also helped push me to focus on my second goal of getting on the air as a local college DJ.
In the grand scheme of things both taught me that hard work and dedication to the things I would do in life would pay dividends in the long run.
Through radio, I was able to meet and interview numerous bands that I grew up listening to. Bands like Little River Band, Asia, Kool and the Gang, Spyro Gyra and many others. It was a dream come true for a young 20 something to accomplish but life pushed me into a different direction and I met the women of my dreams, fell in love and got married.
