Meet Karin Madsen of Life to the Fullest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karin Madsen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had a passion for helping people and supporting people through challenges. I chose to become a clinical psychologist to be able to do just that. I knew that psychology was the field for me when I took my first psychology class my senior year of high school. I found the topic fascinating! I decided to start Life to the Fullest LLC to focus on helping people navigate their struggles and focus on living their most valued life. I have seen the toll that mental health challenges can take on a person’s life and wanted to do something to help people to be able to navigate those challenges in healthy ways and live their lives to the fullest. I believe that everyone goes through struggles and I wanted to try and help change the stigma of mental health so that people feel more open and willing to get help when they are struggling.

I have had so much support from my family and friends over the years. I couldn’t have accomplished this dream without them! My biggest supporter and inspiration has always been my mom. She sacrificed so much for my brother and I when we were growing up and she taught me to always work hard, to follow your passion, and to always get back up when you get knocked down.

Has it been a smooth road?
There were certainly some struggles along the way. Many of us are our own worst critics, myself included. I have had to become comfortable with uncertainty and accept when things are not perfect. That has been a lifelong struggle but even more prominent when trying to launch a successful business that you care so much about. I have had to learn to not sweat the small stuff, learn from mistakes, and keep moving forward.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Life to the Fullest story. Tell us more about the business.
Life to the Fullest LLC started as a private practice focused primarily on women’s issues, including helping people who struggle with eating disorders, self-esteem issues, body-image issues, anxiety, and depression. It has grown now to include more clinicians with more specialty areas. We are now able to reach many more people with our work and hopefully help people in all walks of life start living the lives that they’ve always wanted.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My hope is that the stigma of mental health will continue to decline and that treatment for mental health issues will be readily available to anyone that needs it. I also hope that we become more accepting of our own imperfections and the imperfections of others so that we can support each other each and every day.
