Meet Joe Waldron of Waldron Construction in Suburban

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Waldron.

Joe, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After being laid off for nearly 2 years through the union I knew my unemployment was coming to an end and I had a choice to make. Go work for someone else, which is all I have ever known, or work for myself. My wife and I discussed what would be best for me, us and our family. Despite being scared and having the fear of failure, we decided together that we would build our own construction company. We felt that if we could build a company in the worst economic time we have ever seen (2010) then we could thrive as well. It took all the money we had to buy the business insurance and the LLC. I was still climbing on rooftops, doing whatever I could to get more work while my wife tried to read my writing and type my proposals.

After 3 years we had grown so much to where she quit working as a nurse to help me with the business. I no longer work in the field, unless absolutely necessary. Some of my proudest work was when we were an REO contractor with Wells Fargo, worked with Busy Brains Children’s Museum, Habitat for Humanity, Affordable Housing Corporation and the Village of Lake Villa. I truly enjoy being a GC for a group of great contractors. There have been rough days and there have been easy days but I wouldn’t trade taking that leap of faith for anything. Not only did we do it, we did it together.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We were building a company in the worst market when most people were losing their homes.

Waldron Construction, LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a General Contracting company. We have all different trades that work for us….electric, plumbing, carpenters, etc. We are known for our professionalism, we stand by our word and if a customer is not happy we make it right by the customer. We believe our best marketing is word of mouth. Customers can excel your business or they can tear it down. So we do what we can to make sure we are accountable for all our trades work.
