Meet Jessica L. Williams of Tech Biz Gurl in Printer’s Row

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica L. Williams.

Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2011, while on a client project at a technology consulting company,, I was feeling extremely burnt out and wondering what to do next. I attended the Spark & Hustle Conference for women starting and growing businesses. It was there that I realized how intimidating technology can be for women but also how important it was for them to conquer while building their businesses. I also realized that while I didn’t consider myself an expert, with my combined technology and business background, I knew that I could help these women. That process got me thinking and a week later, I bought the domain for techbizgurl.com. With that, I wanted to create a space where women could go after their online business dreams without technology holding them back.

Running the business has also expanded my relationships into other areas which have helped me get closer to a day job I love.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a side hustler, trying to find the balance is hard a lot of times and sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it. Most people work 8 hours a day and go out to happy hour or go home to relax. You instead are choosing to go home and work for another 2-3 hours. It’s not an easy road at all. Sometimes, you will want to throw your laptop out of the window on those challenging days. But just hearing that my words made a difference or my story has helped someone else, is all I need to keep going and keep sharing my story.

The business has evolved over the years as well as I’ve gotten clearer on who I am and how I want to serve people and now I feel like it’s in a good place and feels really authentic to me. It has not been a smooth road. But I truly believe that all of my struggles have made me a stronger, more self-aware person.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tech Biz Gurl – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
In my last day job role, I worked as a Co-Facilitator for a program that helped women take their technology startups to the next level. There is this idea that you have to be all-in to be an entrepreneur by quitting your job. And that is not feasible for everyone. I really wanted to provide another option for women and space where they could start pursuing their business ideas in a low-risk way, getting it to the point where they could possibly take that leap to full-time when and if it made sense. Also, as someone who had been side hustling for a while, I felt like I had a lot of experience and resources to add to the conversation.

My goal with Tech Biz Gurl is to help people start side hustles so that they can pursue passions and giving them the tools and resources to do that, keeping in mind that a big part of is self-care.

I am most proud of my Affiliate Starter Guide that I created to help side hustlers who are struggling to find time and energy be able to make money while they are at their day job. I am also really proud that Tech Biz Gurl has become so much more than just my side hustle. It’s become an extension of my identity as well as my personal brand. I love sharing my knowledge, tools, and resources with others and I think realizing that has really help me set myself up as a lifestyle brand and a connector.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am most looking forward to relaunching my site in a couple weeks to really highlight my focus on side hustlers and a resource for them. I also want to continue building up my brand and thought leadership by continuing to write and speak in this space.
