Meet Jennifer Prell of Paxem in Northwest Suburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Prell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Paxem on May 8, 2003. I was tired of working for companies who didn’t appreciate hard work or support the efforts of their employees. I decided to build a company where I would enjoy working with other like-minded people, helping seniors and families get organized, packed and moved. It was the best decision I have ever made. I love my job. I love helping people get their lives back through organization, and transitioning seniors into a lifestyle where they could “live” vs. just live. Over the past 14 years we have helped thousands of people. It’s a very gratifying job.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing good is easy. I learned a lot about myself and about letting go. Control freaks, like myself, tend to forget to delegate and trust that others are just as good as you are. It took several years to let go. When the real estate market dropped Paxem struggled to keep our doors open. People weren’t moving and since we’re tied to the real estate industry, we struggled. Perseverance and supportive employees helped me through it. I must say, I have the best team around. The Paxem employees care about our clients, each other and the company. I am blessed.

Paxem – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Paxem is an A+ accredited Senior Move Manager and ASEL (American Society of Estate Liquidators) accredited estate liquidator. We specialize in high quality services such as organizing, de-cluttering, packing, estate sales / liquidations, set up of homes, move management, floor plans, inventories and are hoarder specialists. We are unique in that we adapt to each client we are working with to accommodate their specific needs and are senior-sensitive. Paxem employees make all the difference. Whenever we need something from them they are always there to support us and the families we service.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far is building a company from the ground up. I didn’t have much business help but learned how to do all the necessary backend stuff to build a fabulous business. Once Paxem was steady I started another company called Elderwerks. It’s a free service helping seniors to find senior housing, care and support services. We act as “senior guidance counselors” and offer personalized services so seniors never flail or are alone.
