Meet Jennifer Henderson of A Fresh Event

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Henderson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Every job I’ve had since high school has been one in which providing customer service was at the top of my job description — I knew I had a knack for helping people and making them happy but, I had yet to find my true calling. That is until a chance encounter with an old friend from high school about 6 years ago. It was one that would ultimately change my career path, and life, forever. Still living in Milwaukee at the time, I was hired by a local event planning company to assist the owner & lead planner. Soon, I was booking my own events and finding it a role I played naturally.

Chicago was a city that I visited frequently since I was very young. I was drawn to the trendy, exciting energy that buzzed around a major city and, with every visit, I found it harder and harder to leave. I’m guilty of being a dream chaser, and a lot of people thought I was crazy but, I packed up and moved in 2013 ready to see what the big city had in store.

I worked under the Milwaukee company’s name for 3 years and found great success but, I wanted a bigger challenge. So, at the beginning of this year, A Fresh Event was born.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Every journey has ups and downs but, overall, it has been relatively smooth. I work really, really hard and I’m very dedicated to my clients and growing my company, so there definitely is a good amount of blood, sweat, and tears that go along with what I do. That said, I absolutely love my job and that enables me to reflect on my journey through rose colored glasses.

Please tell us about A Fresh Event.
For me, it’s all about connections and the bonds that I form with, not only the couples that I work with but also the wedding professionals that I’ve built such great relationships with.

I love a pretty wedding just as much as the next planner but, my priority, first and foremost, is building trust with my clients so that I can help them on this journey. It’s uncharted territory for them and I truly become their guide. I work to get to know each couple and their families through the process so that, on their wedding day, I’m more than just a “planner”.

The team of professionals that I help my couple create is truly curated to fit their style, budget and, sometimes most importantly, their personalities. So, the connections I make there – between couple and pros – is also a priority that brings me great joy. I want to walk into a wedding day with a solid group of people so that my couples can just focus on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Finally, what makes me different? Well, I take what I do very seriously but, I’m not afraid to have fun and make my clients have fun, too. We’re planning a wedding here, people! Let’s enjoy this process and laugh a little along the way!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I never know how to answer questions like this because, if I had done things differently, I might not be where I am right now. And, where I am right now is pretty great.
