Meet Janna Mehanovic of Fairy Castle Entertainment in Rolling Meadows

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janna Mehanovic.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Ever since I was a little girl, I always loved Disney and magic! I loved working with the kids, and I have always had a huge passion for interiors. Design and decoration has enthralled me my entire life, and l couldn’t wait to share my ideas! On the beginning I have started to work on my own and travel all over Chicago area, Wisconsin and Indiana, besides that also working a 2 full time jobs at the same time. Finally I build my own customers and become pretty busy! When I got pregnant I thought to stop for some period of time, but people keep calling me and I decided not to lose my customers, so I hired the girl and start going forward! Then I hired 2nd and third. All our costumes professional high quality and cost between $200-$600. We always try to give the best high service we possibly could! We always try to build a long term relationship with our customers! So one day I decided to open my own party place!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like I said, one day I decided to open my own party place, I didn’t have a big budget, we wasn’t famous, It was so risky but I said to myself I will do it.

Well first 2.5 years it was so hard, I literally slept 3-4 hours a day, (now actually the same thing lol) Working 2 more jobs try to save and build the business. I was Building my own website, customizing all the shows and music, writing the script and make a plan for each our public show, all centerpieces design and decor every single thing I’m doing myself, photos, videos, advertising, doing free events, traveling, always trying to do something new and more interesting. And of course there always some people who don’t want you to succeed, and some people definitely play a role at your business and your life, and you never know where you will end up! It’s a very hard road, long hard years, to the point where we are right now! So one day finally people found out about us, but we are not even close yet where we have to be!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the FAIRY CASTLE ENTERTAINMENT story. Tell us more about the business.
The main thing what we do and what we try our best to do, make every single kid happy on their special day!!! We not always working for the money, we do a lot of free visits, free events, we do fundraising and visiting the children of cancer patients, we just simply trying to do each kid smile and do magic in any way!

We do have now more than 50 different characters, a lot of different and unique shows that some companies in Chicago don’t even know about them (like paper show or we give our name to this show “confetti and streamers show” so much fun!!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
YES! Stop and acknowledge how much luck has to do with your success! But unfortunately I didn’t have a luck! I think it’s only 2 ways in the success in your life or business: luck or hard work or both! For me it was just a hard work! I actually at some point even stop to believe that I ever will be at this point where I’m right now, but now I believe that we can do more no matter what!!
