Meet Jamie Schachtel of Jamie Schachtel Design Group in Northern Suburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Schachtel.

Jamie , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I originally designed women’s clothing for my own company in Chicago. It was called Louviere and we manufactured on Montrose and Ravenswood with showrooms in New York and Dallas. I purchased a children’s furniture store on Armitage and Halsted called Bellini. During this time I designed beautiful baby and children’s rooms for many Chicago and North Shore families including the Obama’s! Once I finished the children’s rooms my clients would ask me to create master bedrooms and living areas. This launched my interior design business Jamie Schachtel Design group 17 years ago. My daughter Danielle Yucht and I started this venture out of my basement in Highland Park. Within a year we moved to a beautiful location in the Ravina business district of Highland Park. We have a beautiful showroom/ library we work out of and meet our clients. We have designed homes and penthouses for clients on the North Shore, Chicago,
Boston, Baltimore, Scottsdale, and LA.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It is so wonderful to be able to work with wonderful clients and create beautiful environments for them and their families. The experience of owning and operating my clothing and retail store has been priceless experience that has transferred my to my Interior design business. Working with my team daily to organize all installations, and logistics is the key to running a tight ship and a wonderful experience for my clients. We meet either in my show room or on site most of the time. In my showroom we will view all selections and design boards together before anything is purchased. I tell all my clients that this process should be fun for them not painful.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jamie Schachtel Design Group – what should we know?
Our firm Jamie Schachtel Design Group I feel is truly a “concierge” Design/ Build company. We truly take our clients through the entire process whether we are designing a entire home or a room. We start with 3-d floor plans of the space and work our way up from the flooring to the lighting. We then create visual and tactile design boards of all the final selections before anything is purchased. This is a great tool for our clients and us to really see what everything will look like in their space. We work with the most experienced and talented trades to complete the projects. Lately, we have been working on many kitchens and baths. We take the projects from start to finish including every last accessory.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I do believe that is is important to have the best team behind you to do the best work. Without my partner/ daughter Danielle and my assitant Tiziana I could not be as successful. I have teamed up with wonderful builders and contractors, electricians, painters, wallpaper installers and more to assure my clients the best quality. Our true support is our clients. There is nothing better than receiving thank you notes or calls after the job is complete.
