Today we’d like to introduce you to Indre Cantero.
Indre, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I was always interested in art, even though I was not talented in drawing or painting. In fact, I often was asking my mom to help me draw a simple tree or clouds for my school art projects. I was always fascinated by artists and enjoyed visiting galleries and thought how awesome would be to have your own gallery or art studio until one day, I switched from looking at pictures to taking pictures. The funny thing is, I wasn’t planning on becoming a photographer for my career at the time, but it has been exciting and I’m still falling in love with photography more and more each day.
After college, where I studied Business Administration and working in an office I knew I was missing something. I was missing the artistic side of me which would allow me to express myself and share with others. I only had a little more advanced camera than point and shoot, but I took it to every event. Every kids birthday party I was invited to I was trying to capture those special moments, joy and emotions. Years went by, until one day, my best friend encouraged me to start pursuing my passion and interest and start serious photography career. That’s when I got my first DSLR camera and dived into the world of photography.
I photograph everything I can to improve my skills, I look at things from different angles, I learn something new every time I shoot. My camera goes with me everywhere I go. My friends and their kids were my models and I am so thankful for their time and effort to help me grow.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Becoming a photographer changed my life. I had to leave my shyness behind, push my boundaries and enter new territory. Many times I felt confused and afraid of having a long road ahead of me. Building a business from scratch is not an easy task. You go through a lot of rough roads and bumps, a lot of disappointment and obstacles that you have to go over to get to your destination. I started my photography business several years ago with only one camera and lens. Now, expanded to couple professional ones with a wide selection of different lenses to accommodate all different needs and types of occasions.
Establishing clients was one of the hardest parts of building a successful career. You have to prove and separate yourself from other photographers, you have to do what others aren’t willing to do. Experimenting and thinking outside the box is definitely a key. Social networking is surely a big credit and impacted some of my growth.
All the challenges throughout my career have taught me lots of lessons. I discovered that you have to trust your instinct, trust your gut and go with the flow. I also learned that being patient and having solid determination will get you to your goals. Those in mind drove me to where I am now.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Indre Cantero Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
What sets me apart from the average photographer is that I have a longing to tell real stories. My photography is mostly about capturing candid, sweet moments and emotions with pictures. My favorite type is family occasions because it’s a true expression of feelings and all natural reactions. So, I enjoy capturing those precious moments filled with true energy since most of them can never be repeated. Like a kid blowing his birthday candles or his reaction to opening a Holiday gift and seeing tears of joy. As a mom myself and like every mom, I would love to see those growing moments of their kids documented and share them with their kids when they grow up. So I have great pride in understanding what families look for in pictures, that’s why I specialize in christenings, birthday parties, anniversaries and all happy family gatherings. My biggest hope is that, in years to come, they will look back on these pictures and feel joy remembering those happy moments.
Not to mention, I also concentrate on a public, social and fundraising functions. I enjoy getting shots of attendees having fun, networking at a conference or participating in conversations.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been very fortunate to be around encouraging people, great clients, building relationships and networking with others. I believe in learning and hard work to prepare yourself for success. Luck is something you create and if you are regularly improving yourself, working and learning new skills or techniques – luck will follow you.
Being positive it’s a key. I always try to see and find the positive side of negative situations and believe that things will turn out for the best.
By developing positive habits and way of thinking I believe I attract more luck and bring good vibes into my life and business!
