Meet Erial Ramsey of Nimiety Holdings in South Suburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erial Ramsey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was a child I was asked by my great uncle (who more like my grandfather-figure), “What do you want to be when you grow up?” And proudly I would say, “A teacher.” This back and forth went on for a few years, but then my answer changed, as if I needed to upgrade my answer, to “A professor.” My uncle, whom we affectionately called “Ram,” seemed impressed and pleased with that answer. And it became a self-fulfilled prophecy. I became an adjunct professor (in graphic design) at the age of 26.

However, I also had another passion. I started a graphic design business when I was 20 years old and had maintained that as part-time work through undergrad, grad school and beyond. Though I loved the design process, I most enjoyed bringing my client’s vision to life. I became more than a designer, I slowly became a brand expert and a business mentor. I was helping people realize their dreams.

It took me entering a plus-sized pageant (The Miss Plus America Pageant) for me to have the “aha” moment. I was asked, “What is your dream job?” And I said, “Fairy Godmother because I love seeing people’s dreams manifest.” And with that, I set out to fulfill my own dream to help others with theirs.

My company is Nimiety Holdings, which have a few brands aimed at helping people fulfill their dreams. Imperial1002 is my graphic design & marketing company that I have had for nearly 13 years. Hustle Baby Hustle is a brand boot camp that helps people develop and launch a brand in 4 weeks. And my newest brand, The She Launches Dreams is a women’s network dedicated to helping women “get it done,” no matter what ‘it” is.

Has it been a smooth road?
In my journey to fulfill this dream, I quit my job, which at the time I was the department head at the college I was teaching in Cincinnati, Ohio. Sold all my belongings. Moved to Chicago. I did secure a part-time teaching gig but set out to build and work Imperial1002 full-time.

And no, it wasn’t easy at all. I was making $20,000 less than what I was making at my former job, in a place with a higher cost of living and I paid the price. I did my fair share of free / discounted work to get my business out there, but they didn’t pay the bills. Many financial struggles, health issues with no health insurance, and other factors brought me to a place of questioning if I was doing the right thing. I even contemplated ending my own life, because things weren’t quite lining up and I didn’t see a solution in sight. I felt absolutely hopeless.

But like most things, if you keep putting one foot in front of the other, you’ll eventually get somewhere. My client base grew. I eventually outgrew my “solopreneur” lifestyle and hired other designers to work for the business. And that allowed me time to develop my other brands, Hustle Baby Hustle and The She Launches Dreams Network.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Nimiety Holdings story. Tell us more about the business.
I am now called “The Dream Queen,” which I think is a more accurate description of what I do. I connect people with information, resources, and services that can help them fulfill their dream. I think I am most proud of or perhaps humbled by, is that I am not doing this work by myself. I have a team that shares my vision and bring to life my dream of helping others achieve theirs.

Below are the descriptions of my main brands:

Imperial1002 is a full-service graphic design & marketing company that specializes in branding, layout & design, web design, email marketing & design and multimedia marketing solutions. That includes everything from logo & brand development to signage/wayfinding to web and social media marketing solutions. (imperial1002.com)

Hustle Baby Hustle is a four-week branding boot camp that includes coursework, group coaching, and an optional design package. At the end of the course, participants “launch” via social media to celebrate the beginning of their new business, brand, or idea. (hustlebabyhustle.com)

The She Launches Dreams Network is a membership-based network dedicated to help women get “it” done, whatever “it” is. The network was created to bring hope to women and encourage them to dream. Our mission for the She Launches Dreams Network is to 1. Provide a platform where women can achieve their dreams, 2. In an environment that facilitates hope, love and results, 3. With experts who have a sincere desire to create positive change among women, 4. that share a mission of inspiring results and chain-reacting change.(shelaunchesdreams.com)
