Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Davis.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a photographer based in Chicago but I am originally from Toledo, Ohio. I moved to Chicago a couple of years ago to study photography and marketing. I mainly shoot digitally but I have my fair share of film cameras I love to experiment with. The city has inspired me in so many ways and has given me the opportunity to achieve so many things. I absolutely adore working and living here!
Please tell us about your art.
Most of my work is commercial so I focus on portrait, food, product, music, and lifestyle photography. I love working with my clients to create something amazing and still add my own style to each session. My inspiration comes from everything around me and everything I experience. I am constantly working with other creatives, brainstorming ideas, looking for locations, and trying to find inspiration wherever I go.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced, as well as other creatives I’ve worked with, is being taken advantage of as an artist. My advice to other artists is to know what your time and work is worth and don’t let people give you any less. I have been asked so many times to photograph and work for free, which is disrespectful to the artist.
