Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Ganz and Jeanne Foley.
The idea for TGS was born from Jeanne’s personal experience planning her 2013 New Year’s Eve wedding. With no other options available to affordably outfit Kevin’s groomsmen, they were forced to go the usual rental route only to be incredibly inconvenienced and disappointed by the pick-up/drop-off logistics, poor fit, and $250 per tuxedo price tag. Using her fashion industry and design experience, Jeanne set out to create a new solution for black tie attire: a sharp looking tuxedo that could be purchased for less than the cost of a traditional rental.
In February 2016, Jeanne and Diana launched The Groomsman Suit’s concept of owning a suit or tuxedo for $179 on Kickstarter to see what the interest would be. After selling almost 100 tuxedos and suits in 30 days, they quickly placed their first inventory order and launched The Groomsman Suit’s website.
Day to day, Jeanne leads product development for The Groomsman Suit (TGS). Her focus on high-quality fabrics, construction and components, and meticulous attention to detail are evident in every TGS suit. Jeanne continuously advances the TGS product by leveraging her great relationships with key industry partners.
Being a passionate advocate for TGS, Diana oversees marketing and branding efforts to bring maximum visibility and growth to the brand. She is also responsible for various aspects related to managing finances and inventory.
Two and a half years later, The Groomsman Suit has outfitted thousands of weddings across the country. Their online store has expanded to offer a full collection of products that include suiting, tuxedos, shirts, shoes and other accessories. In 2017, Jeanne and Diana moved their headquarters from New York to Chicago and today, TGS is powered by a team of ten amazing individuals who are dedicated to helping men look sharp affordably.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We feel very fortunate to have experienced the success we have. From the moment we launched TGS, it took off and we’ve grown at an exciting pace. As much as we like to say that the stars really aligned for us to start this company together, it has been a tremendous amount of work. Words can’t really express how much grit, love, and effort it takes to launch a company. Our struggles along the way mostly relate to pain points we’ve experienced due to our rapid growth. Everyone likes to say running out of inventory is “a good problem to have,” but it’s created some customer services challenges. Thankfully, we have the best team to help us navigate these bumps in the road.
