Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Espinosa.
I am a lover of all things art and photography is one of those mediums that I love. My love for photography started as a child with film cameras (I loved developing film… oh, the element of surprise!). I am a local and destination wedding and documentary photographer. I love being able to visually tell the client’s story. I also love to paint, cook and interior design (I can BFF’s with any of the designers on HGTV). The business aspect of photography was birthed from a challenging period; it served as a creative outlet and an instrument to lead us on a beautiful journey. I am also a Realtor and started both businesses at the same time, they both bring me in contact with people during special moments/new journeys in their lives and it’s truly moving and inspirational to me. I am extremely grateful for the blessings both have served my family and I. It is exciting to continue the journey every day; my love grows every day for it.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a wedding and documentary photographer, local and available for travel. I love to travel! So please, consider inviting me to capture your out of state/country wedding. Traveling brings me into contact with new places but also new people. I love being able to visually tell the client’s story and I try to convey early on to my clients (prior to booking) that this is how I like to approach their day. Connection, moments, truth, story, love… all this inspires me. It creates meaning! It creates a purpose! When I think about the movie “The Notebook”, the movie shows evidence of the power of sharing memories. James Garner who plays the elderly “Noah” reads every day to his love, the elderly “Allie”. He reads from a journal he wrote that retells all about their love in order to spark the memories to come back to “Allie” who has Alzheimer. I feel that photography is the visual storytelling of a written journal and it definitely sparks something.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Defining success is not the same for everyone. For some it may be being able to provide for their family and for some it may be fame. Whatever it looks like for you, I’d say ask yourself “Are you happy?” but also “Is your happiness sustainable?”. A few characteristics that I feel are essential for an artist are authenticity, passion, humility, focus and fearless. And a harder one to discuss, as a small business owner, tough skin. You need to have tough skin; it is not always all roses. You will face adversity, disappointment and face other challenges growing pains but that’s all normal in any business. Focus only on the positive influences.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My current business name is Denise Espinosa Photography. I am excited to announce that this will soon change to Hazel & Skye Photography. You can find me on my website and of course social media (Facebook and Instagram); I update my Instagram more often and would love the support there.
