Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Williams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My father started the business in 1976 with just one employee, himself. He and one other company on the West Coast were the very first providers of registration services to the trade show industry. The two companies literally invented the business.
Over the years the company has grown in many ways; number of clients, number of employees, technologically, the services we provide. the markets we serve. My brother has been with CompuSystems (CSI) for 17 years and I’ve been here for 21. We feel as though it’s our job to continue our father’s legacy of being one of the inventors of the trade show registration business.
Our primary focus is to provide the very best service in the marketplace using leading-edge technology. We invest heavily in both areas and we have fabulous team of over 200 dedicated people who strive every day to be the best in the industry.
Our industry is fast-paced and ever-changing. We’re grateful for the opportunity it’s provided to us and we look forward to many more years servicing the largest trade show organizers in the world.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Business, like life, is full of obstacles. Like most business ours is very difficult. We’re constantly trying to provide the best work environment possible for our team members while enabling them to provide the best service. Our business requires both human and technological resources so the ongoing capital investment is extensive. However, without it we’d be unable to continually adapt to and ever-changing marketplace.
CompuSystems – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a trade show registration company. That is to say we make the badges that allow you to enter a private trade show. We are known as one of the oldest and largest companies in the US that do what we do. We are known for the number of large, prestigious clients that we’ve had for a number of years. We’re known for being able to service the largest, most complex shows in the industry and our dedication to service and technology set us apart from our competition.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success by creating stability for our clients, our team members and my family. Each of those groups define stability in different ways so my definition stability and success has to include more than my personal definition. Perhaps achieving success is more difficult with that criteria but it has provided very strong motivation for me for many, many years. I’m very grateful for everything I have.
