Meet Brooke Schamber of Oasis Summer Day Camp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Schamber.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My husband and I are educators, he a second grade teacher and I a school psychologist. While in graduate school we ran a park district camp in Glencoe and grew a following after revamping it. The success we saw with that experience, along with memories of the magic of summer we felt growing up gave us the idea to start our own camp. As educators, we thought we could create the ultimate summer experience for kids and get to experience fun and exploration outside of the confines of the educational setting. In addition, we liked the idea of being able to actually be a part of our own children summer camp experience!

Has it been a smooth road?
We were fortunate that camp has grown every year steadily. We began in Winnetka and after about five years added Highland Park which has taken off and this year, due to parent feedback we have added Arlington Heights. I’d love to take the credit for the success, but really the program and the amazing connections the staff make with campers and families are what make Oasis a great summer experience.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Oasis Summer Day Camp – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
With our backgrounds in education, we were able to weave together an experience that includes enrichment-based educational classes, sports, exciting trips and special events, team building and more, all in what we believe is a warm and accepting environment. There is something for every type of camper and the new challenges go well due to the relationships developed with peers and counselors. I think it is unique to have a camp created and staffed by those in education. With a foundation of how to build up children and support them as they learn and play.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Where camp is located on the North Shore of Chicago we are at an advantage as far as the wide range of experiences offered in the city such as trips to Navy Pier to explore at a children’s museum, take in a Cubs game, going to a beach to kayak on Lake Michigan, as well as easy access to educational trips in other parts of Illinois and even Wisconsin. We have so many exciting options thanks to the rich culture, volume of family-friendly events and high caliber of businesses in the area.

My son has been going to Oasis for the past two years. He is super excited to attend again this summer. It’s a GREAT camp and the kids have so much fun doing a variety of different things. Pools, beaches and Friday trips.
