Today we’d like to introduce you to Ari Presant.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
TVTI started out in 1999 as a low voltage and data company satellite and network wiring to large buildings in Chicago. As the years progressed, so did technology. We quickly and naturally moved into home and office automation technologies where we have worked on projects as small as studio apartments and as large as some of the biggest and most luxurious homes the Chicagoland area has to offer. Over the last 5-10 years we grew into one of the most recognized names in the industry in both the residential and commercial A/V systems. We are responsible for the A/V systems in some of Chicago’s most recognized luxury high-rises, low-rises, single family homes, and even stadiums, among other facilities.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No company has a “smooth” road, and TVTI was no different. Our work load is somewhat dependent on the health of the construction industry. We’re certainly taking advantage of the current boom and love seeing cranes all over the place, but it wasn’t always like that. Like many others, we were affected by the downturn in the economy in 2008. Many of our competitors were forced to shut their doors during that time, but due to our partnerships with the best builders in the city, we were fortunate enough to make it through the tough times.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with TVTI – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a home, office, and full building automation design and installation firm. We put technologies in different environments that most people don’t even know exist. Every single one of our projects is custom. The basic idea is that you can control (almost) whatever you want in your home or office from an app on your phone or a touchscreen on the wall. Systems can include, TV, audio, lights, alarm systems, camera systems, temperature control, window blinds, door locks, and a variety of other components. The coolest part of my job is watching my friends, family, clients, and business partners react when they see what we do for the first time.
There are a number of projects that we’re especially proud of. On the commercial side, working with the Bulls and Blackhawks has been a phenomenal experience because both franchises mean so much to our city. So far we’ve done the Bulls training facility (Advocate Center) as well as the suites and new offices at the United Center and we’re currently working on the new Blackhawks training facility. On the residential side there’s one project that really sticks out to me because it really showed how what we do can make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. This particular client was hard of hearing and we installed a hearing loop to go along with their A/V system. When we turned it on for the first time and she was able to hear what was on through her hearing aids for the first time in her life, it brought her to tears. It was truly a great moment to be a part of.
One thing that we at TVTI do that we’re especially proud of is our service department. We understand that we’re not in the technology business, but instead, the service business. We have a qualified technician on call 7 days a week to handle any service need from our clients. We understand that technology is not perfect, but we do everything we can to prevent possible issues. Still, some things happen, and when they do, we’re always ready and willing to help.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We’re always looking for ways to improve our client’s lives. The exciting part about our industry is that it seems like something new is coming out every day. Some of it is great and some of it is… not so much. We do a thorough job of testing new technologies in our office to make sure they’re up to our client’s standards before offering them.
As far as our business plan moving forward, we’re excited to be in talks to open a second location in the Chicagoland area, which will provide us the tools to better service current and future clientele.
