Meet Andrea Victor, Rachel Tercek, and Anne Howard of Chicago Neurodevelopmental Center in Northbrook

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Victor, Rachel Tercek, and Anne Howard.

Andrea, Rachel, and Anne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We are three clinical psychologists who spent several years working at large hospitals and clinics in the Midwest. While working together, we all became friends and realized that we had the same aspirations and goals for our future as child psychologists. Our hope was to develop a unique practice that specialized in the evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with neurobehavioral challenges. About four years ago, Chicago Neurodevelopmental Center (CNC) was created to move towards our goal of supporting families in a very special way. CNC focuses on developing relationships with youth and their families so that we can guide them throughout all stages of development. Each child and family has a unique set of strengths and challenges that we aim to understand in order to provide the most effective support and treatment. Along the way, we work as partners with children and their parents to foster their strengths and overcome their challenges. Our goal is to ensure that each child feels supported and successful every day so that they can feel good about themselves, even when confronted with challenges.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As CNC grows at a quick pace, we are striving to continue to meet our goal of working closely with each child and family. It is important that all families who enter our doors feel that they are being uniquely supported and getting the attention they need. We want parents and children to feel that they can contact us at any time and get their questions answered and plans developed to help solve problems that may arise.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Chicago Neurodevelopmental Center – what should we know?
CNC specializes in evaluating and treating children, adolescents, and young adults. We complete comprehensive neuropsychological assessments that aim to identify each child’s unique pattern of strengths and challenges. Once we have a better understanding of each child’s profile, then the information is used to develop effective treatment plans and goals to foster success across home, school, and social settings. CNC also helps parents navigate the educational system to ensure that their child is receiving appropriate support within the school setting. Furthermore, CNC offers evidence-based treatment to children and adolescents to address difficulties related to anxiety, mood, and behavior. We focus on using therapy techniques that are research-based, which educate children and parents about their difficulties and teach specific strategies to manage and decrease mood and behavioral challenges.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Each psychologist at CNC is passionate about working with children and their families.

We all strive to collaborate with each child so that they feel empowered and successful in their lives. The personal attention each parent and child receives sets us apart from other practices.
