Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Blecker.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alison. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For the past 10 years, I have been practicing deep tissue massage for business travelers in hotels, events and in the concert touring industry. The backstage massage was just a part time gig but was fun to be involved in when I was just starting my career. I have really worked with so many people and numerous hours of work that I know massage therapy is needed to decrease stress for all walks of life. Working in the concert touring industry, there are time constraints that you are under for each person you massage. Working on stagehands, sound guys, lighting guys, production, tour drivers, management and the artists; each person may have only 20 minutes. Not all sessions are full massages. I work with focus, intention and get into the deepest layers of the body in the shortest amount of time. With this being in my early years of training myself and developing my own style of massage, I am best known for deep tissue. After working with many talented artists; the artists themselves would say how talented I was. For some, I was the best on the tour. I felt humbled and grateful of their compliments as they toured the world for years and still appreciated my work. Massage minimizes injuries, improves moral of the camp and quicken recovery from road fatigue or past injuries.
I moved to Illinois from Tampa Florida 3 years ago. I am originally from the southside of Chicago. My growing up years were mainly in the northwest suburbs. I am familiar with areas of Illinois but knew no one when I first was getting started. I worked a couple of jobs in Chicago. There was no steady work. It was challenging to promote myself as a business within another business. There was no control in building a client base. I decided to go back to school. There I became inspired to build myself as a brand and branch on my own as a small independent therapist business.
I chose my business name to be Rockin Massage because the word “Rockin” translates to the word “Awesome”. I feel that my work is pretty awesome and I have massaged many “Rock Stars”. I thought it would be a fun name for a business. I bought my domain years ago but since moving to Illinois I decided to brand myself and my business. Timing is everything.
The purpose of Rockin Massage is to make a difference within each session. Assisting clients with healing mental-emotional pain and clear the energetic patterns that are holding them in the dysfunctional state. Release the limiting energy and free up their awareness!
With my background in deep tissue, I always start with this in my sessions. I then follow the energy of the session and add in other gentle modalities; Access Consciousness, Acupressure, Sound Therapy, Raindrop therapy with essential Oils or Reiki. The clients who come to my studio suite are open to this approach.
I now have a loyal client base and steady small business. I hope to continue building my brand, expand and grow.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No smooth roads. I took my time and many paths to find my place in Illinois. Starting my business, I needed a logo and a presence on the web. I had ideas of what I wanted but it took a couple of talented graphic artists that created my Rockin Massage logo. My website was a work in progress with WordPress. But I ended up finding the right help for my layout. I have created content and keep it up to date. Now that I have grown my online presence, I miss calls daily. I now use a scheduling software that you can book directly from my website and onto my calendar, even day of which is pretty much how my clients book.
Location, location, location! This was stressful as I had no idea where to start networking and building relationships. I was first living on the southside, so I thought it would be great to build a business in the Oak Lawn area. I also had a small office space that I shared in Oak Brook. I would have scheduling issues with my room share and grew into a larger room. Still, the more I promoted in Oak Lawn the more calls I would get in Oak Brook. Luckily, I was able to get out of my lease. I grew in Oak Brook and moved into my own studio suite.
I love my space. It has a welcoming feel. My massage room is warm and a tranquil get a way for any day.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rockin Massage story. Tell us more about the business.
Clients who come to me are often stressed out, fatigued or going through some life changes and just need a good massage. I offer deep tissue combined with relaxation and add in other techniques if I sense they need deeper work. My training is a mixture of modalities such as structural energetic therapy, Sound therapy, Acupressure, Access Consciousness Reiki and essential oils. Once the client is relaxed from a deep tissue massage I go into the alternative energy work where they go into an altered state of consciousness and release limiting beliefs, limited energetic patterns while creating more awareness and introspection to their life. They always come out of the session with a sense of wellbeing and feelings of expansion and awareness.
I have dedicated my work to aim to help people not just soft tissue muscular, physical body but also on an energetic level and conscious level. Raising their vibration and awareness of self.
I specialize in deep tissue with a holistic approach.
I’m most proud of my ability to connect with people. My philosophy is to make a difference with each session. I work with people assisting them with healing mental-emotional pain and clear the energetic patterns that are holding them in that state of being. My services assist those clients with their physical being, mental state and emotional state of being and contributes to life improvement.
Being a multi-dimensional therapist who works with compassion and love in my work is what sets me apart. I am able to connect with my clients and facilitate a shift to higher awareness. You cannot really duplicate what I do. My work is an art that has developed over the years of my own development of intuitive skills, creative skills and personal power.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Starting from the beginning. I was introduced to a woman who owned a mobile massage business. She was more of a dispatch. She promoted and received calls but needed a contracted therapist to go out and perform the massages. This is how I got into working with business travelers mainly in hotels. This was great luck back in 2008 when the economy was great and lots of professionals traveling on corporate dollars. Most people would fly in and need recovery from jet lag. Tips were great.
Then I met a woman who similarly promoted therapists as an international team. She promotes specifically in the concert touring industry. She was in Florida to see a band on her vacation and needed a massage. No one on her team was able to go to her hotel. She posted an ad online for a massage and a friend of mind told me to check it out. I met her and she instantly loved my deep tissue and offered me to join her team. This was lucky because I had no clue to all the celebrity clients I was about to meet and massage. Of course, no photos were taken but I have a collection of backstage passes that decorate my walls in my office now.
