Meet Alex Castrounis of InnoArchiTech

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Castrounis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my career pursuing my dream of working in professional motorsports. After completing a masters degree in Mathematics, I worked ten years and over 100 races worldwide as a race strategist, data scientist, and vehicle dynamicist for IndyCar racing teams and the Indianapolis 500.

I then transitioned to tech where I held software engineering, management, and leadership roles at various industry leading companies. Currently, at my day job, I am the vice president of product and advanced analytics at Rocket Wagon, an enterprise IoT, and digital services company.

I started InnoArchiTech in 2014. Initially, I was interested in blogging about trends in technology, which allowed me to learn more about topics I was passionate about and then share that knowledge. From that, InnoArchiTech grew into a company that provides technical consulting, education, writing, and speaking services focused on transforming data into value.

In addition, I write for other industry-leading publications and am in the process of writing a book. I also create and teach courses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science.

Has it been a smooth road?
When leaving racing, I had many years of very successful experience working in professional motorsports, which is highly technical, fast-paced, high-pressure, and demands top performance at all times.

Although I was more than qualified for the positions I was seeking in tech, it was a challenge to get companies to see how my skills and experience could translate to the jobs they were looking to fill.

Once I got my foot in the door, though, it was clear that the years I spent in racing had definitely prepared me for the roles, and I was able to advance my tech career relatively quickly.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with InnoArchiTech – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I founded InnoArchiTech to provide technical consulting, education, writing, and speaking services focused on transforming data into value. This is done by leveraging state of the art artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science techniques in order to achieve business and customer goals, and also to improve human experiences.

Through my company, I have taught classes in data science, data analytics, product management, and SQL at General Assembly. I have also created and given in-person workshops on artificial intelligence and machine learning and created an online course based on goal-driven AI and machine learning. I have also spoken on numerous panels and have given many talks throughout Chicago.

I am currently working with O’Reilly Media and am debuting a three-part online artificial intelligence course on their Safari Platform. I am also in the process of writing a book with O’Reilly, more details of which will be announced later this year.

Additionally, I am launching a brand new podcast called Pod as a Service, or simply PODaaS for short! The podcast is on emerging, trending, and state-of-the-art advanced analytics, software, and hardware technologies. Topics discussed include artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, data science, big data, IoT, and more. It will be launched in early April 2018.

I am most proud of the fact that from waking up in the middle of the night with an idea of starting a blog, I have grown InnoArchiTech into a business which helps people learn about, and leverage technologies that I am passionate about.

Being able to speak about and teach highly technical topics at a level that executives can understand is very challenging, and especially without diluting the key information and applications. This is an area that I believe is underrepresented and is somewhat of a niche for me.

My focus is not only on explaining very complex technologies and techniques in a readily understandable way but also and most importantly, why to use them.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I was born and raised in Chicago, and I love everything about it! I even love the winters, which I sometimes get made fun of for. I’m also a huge Chicago sports fan. I think Chicago is a world-class, beautiful city with amazing sports, people, things to do, and food… what’s not to love!
