Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Montgomery.
Kelly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a child, I had a passion for combing and styling my doll’s hair. During my sophomore year of high school, the opportunity arose for me to attend Beauty school. The school paid half as long as I kept my grades up. My mother sacrificed a lot for me to attend. I excelled because I understood what was happening to me, this was a blessing! When I graduated, not only did I receive my diploma, but I was also a licensed Professional Cosmetologist! And boy, I do love this profession!!!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life has its share of ups and downs, loss of loved ones, divorce, insecurity you name it. But I had a passion, a desire, a love for what I was pursuing. My advice for anyone is to make sure you love what you choose to do in life. Please understand there will be days when you don’t feel like getting up and dealing with others. But when you enjoy what you do, you will persevere. Know your ‘Why’ then, it’s easier to do your job!
Please tell us about Kelzcuts.
I’m a hairstylist who absolutely loves cutting, coloring, and styling short hair. I specialize in very short, relaxed, and edgy styles. I’m thankful that I have the ability to connect with the clients. Listening to my client’s desires and needs is key to me forming my plan of action. I understand it’s more than just
a hair appointment and that’s what sets me apart.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I’ve been a social butterfly all my life. As a child growing up, I played outside with friends, attended parties and loved to have conversations. These social skills made it very easy for me to interact with clients.
