Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Hughes-Jackson and Brittany Hughes.
Nzuri Body Essentials is a luxury bath and body care line created by mother-daughter, Adrienne and Brittany. In 2013, Brittany proposed the idea of creating a fashion/beauty blog from the perspective of a mother and daughter, sharing their favorite beauty products and discussing the latest trends. While writing for a few months, Adrienne was inspired to start mixing and creating hair care products for her personal use. Adrienne started noticing certain ingredients that would become beneficial to both skin and hair. Considering the duo had different skin concerns such as eczema, and lack of moisture in the skin, they started contemplating on ways to provide quality products for individuals who experience some of the same skin concerns and how to potentially create generational wealth within their family.
Nzuri Body Essentials was created in September 2016 and were vendors at their very first vending event at the Little Black Pearl in the Bronzeville area of Chicago. Since then, Nzuri Body Essentials has vented at places such as The Black Women’s Expo, The Chicago Artisan Market, and various events across the entire Chicagoland area. Currently, Adrienne is studying Aromatherapy and Brittany recently completed her Esthetician program and is soon to be licensed. Nzuri Body Essentials is now currently sold at the Fashion Outlets Mall of Chicago and online.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The mother-daughter duo and Nzuri Body Essentials has completely evolved and grown together, from changing the packaging three times, learning from many mistakes, and completely rebranding the entire business. No, this journey has not been easy, and the dynamic duo does not expect it to get any easier as the business continues to grow.
As like any other new business owners, initially there were many mistakes that could be avoided such as knowing the importance of securing your business name and/or idea. Learning ways to receive the proper funding (if needed) for your business, and learning when and how to delegate a various task to ensure that your business runs smoothly.
Lastly, do your research! This can fall under different topics, but specifically, do your research on ways to use different resources that are free and beneficial to your business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Nzuri Body Essentials – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
