Conversations with the Inspiring Olka Gamolka

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olka Gamolka.

Olka, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I would say, it all started in 2016. I won in Diversity Lottery and came to the USA with my new green card. Everything was so different and new to me, so I could not resist the temptation to share my emotions. That’s how I started posting pictures and writing short or not always short stories on Instagram! 🙂 Somehow, people liked my perception of the world and my immigrant experience so my audience kept growing. And this is how I got where I am today with 36k people with me. <3

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nah, nothing is ever easy in life! 🙂 The worst part for me is dealing with haters and with people who do not share your standpoint trying to impose their beliefs onto you. My advice – always stay true to yourself, even if somebody doesn’t like it. The other struggle for me is finding inspiration in those days when you wanna run and hide on a deserted island. But be persistent and take a break when you feel you need it!

What should we know about Olka Gamolka? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
He he, good question! 🙂 Well, somebody says, I am a blogger or an influencer, but for me, this is just a hobby that makes me happy 😉 I love sharing my feedback and helping people if I can. My specialty – hmmm, I would say I can share some tips on my immigration experience. Also, people frequently ask my advice about pets – yes, I have traveled with my cat from Ukraine to Chicago, IL and she was sitting on my lap the whole time. If you have questions about a pit bull – I also have one. 🙂 I love traveling but it is not always possible with my office job. Oh, btw, if you are in the IT world, I also work as a Technical Recruiter and will gladly share some tips and maybe even find a job for you. 🙂

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
In terms of networking, my problem is shyness. I suck at small talks and it takes me ages to open up. But I am working on it! 🙂 Try visiting different meetups and events in your area. And always be yourself and you will do great!
