Conversations with the Inspiring Nicole Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Moore.

Nicole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I developed an interest in modeling at the age of 16 after a photographer friend decided to use me for a photo shoot. When I moved to NYC for school, I decided to pursue freelance modeling as a way to make some extra money on the side. As someone who has always loved fashion and beauty, it was an incredible experience to be a part of the industry.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve definitely struggled with the fact that I’m not a straight size model. I have hips, and I’m decidedly pear shaped which hasn’t always made it easy. I’ve been turned down for jobs based on a factor that is mostly genetic. I think the best thing for me was to learn about my body and how to keep it healthy. I was learned to capture my best angles and feel comfortable in my own skin.

What are your currently working on?
I’m a writer and a model. I’ve worked for a variety of different companies as a writer and editor, but most recently, I’ve been focusing on modeling. I’ve always loved being a part of interesting concepts and helping to create beautiful art, in whatever capacity that is.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
In the modeling industry, women do have the advantage. Female models tend to make more money and receive more opportunities, unlike many other industries. In my experience, the women that I’ve met through modeling are all extremely supportive of each other and it’s easy to form bonds with those you work with.
