Conversations with the Inspiring Lisa Kozlowski

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Kozlowski.

Lisa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been obsessed with makeup for as long as I can remember. I grew up in the 80’s where vivid bright colors were all things makeup. I’m sure my curiosity grew due to my Mom never wanting me to touch her makeup stash. Any time I could sneak an opportunity, I played. As I grew up, my interest moved from putting it in myself to putting it on others. Any school dance, holiday or wedding, I was always convincing someone to let me do their makeup to practice on. After high school, I went to get certified and started freelancing wedding makeup for about two years. Right before I turned 21, I decided I didn’t want to work on weekends, so I shifted to a career (or what I thought would be) in banking. I did that for about eight years until becoming a wife, then a stay at home mom. I got an opportunity to help out a friend with her bridal makeup and ended up committing myself to do the entire bridal party. After that day, I found something I didn’t know was missing. My passion. From that moment forward, there was a fire inside me to start my own company and continue with what I knew and loved. And from there came Shimmer and Pout!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was a pretty smooth road my first time around and mostly jitters the second time. In a business where makeup artists were popping up everywhere in comparison to when I first started out, I was intimidated. Thankfully, I didn’t let it stop me. Therefore, any advice I can give a woman of any age is, don’t let fears or concerns stop you from living out what’s in your heart. You can’t teach passion, and passion is what shines through to your clients!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Shimmer and Pout story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a freelance makeup artist, who specializes in Bridal Makeup. I also offer organic and vegan spray tans. I’m most proud of my dedication to clients. I love hearing from a client “thank you for the quick responses and constant communication ” and also “thank you for making me a priority.”

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
