Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Keria Jerdon.
Chelsea Keria, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My makeup artist journey started 2010 while I was providing makeup for stylized fashion and modeling photoshoots. I then moved into the wedding makeup in 2013 and fell in love. I’m a sucker for wedding days and all the emotional moments around it. I love helping the bride fulfill her dream wedding and making her look flawless for her big day!
I’ve been married to my husband Westley for over ten+ years, and he happens to be a wedding photographer. We enjoy working with one another, but when we have separate weddings, we also enjoy telling one
another about each other’s bride’s big day over dinner.
I’m great under the pressures of a bride’s big day and I’m an easy going person who put others before myself. I have a degree in social work that I have used to help some brides ease their anxieties while also relaxing them while they are in my chair getting their makeup completed.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles I have had is the lack of support from other professionals. When I first started, I had no direction and no idea how to run my business. I have invested in myself over the years by attending workshops and networking. I often try to be an artist that new artists can reach out to for advice on their business. Just remember when your first starting out, you won’t have many supports, fans or clients but with the hard work and dedication you can make anything possible! Also, don’t be scared to ask for help and always keep learning!
What should we know about Makeup by Keria? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I mainly focus and specialize in bridal makeup but I have been a part of a few commercials and a PBS TV program. I take pride in having a high review rating from my previous clients and always try to make sure they are receiving the best experience that they deserve!
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Sanitation is key. Hustle hard but ALWAYS be humble.
