Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Heyward.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been taking photos since I can remember. To this day, one of my favorite gifts as a child was my point and shoot film camera that I would always carry with me, oftentimes trying to get whoever I could to let me take photos of them. I took photos throughout high school and college, but it was at the beginning of 2017 that I began to take photography seriously and pursue it as a profession. I now work with couples, families, brands, artists, and record labels around the country.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey with photography has had many ups and downs. Being a freelancer means quitting the “more stable” job and pursuing your passion with everything you have, which means the uncertainty of income and stability at times.
But in the end, it’s worth it. It’s worth pursuing what you love, even if it means working harder and giving up some comfort. It’s more rewarding when you book a client because you know the work you have put in. Pursue what you love because if you don’t, you might never know what could have been.
What should we know about Anna Jung-Hwa Photography? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a young photographer, based in Chicago, but available anywhere. I specialize in portrait, couple, and live event photography.
My philosophy to my photography is simple, which sets me apart from others. I’m not a fan of unnatural poses, plastic settings, and over editing. I live for capturing the genuine moments, I desire to tell stories through my work, and I strive to provoke feelings through my images.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
In my networking around the country, I have learned that the best way to making connections is by being kind, getting to know people, and never passing up an opportunity when it occurs.
