Today we’d like to introduce you to Shiloh Rowland.
Shiloh, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Growing up, I have always had a niche for creating. I dappled in mixed media but ultimately fell in love with photography. I love being able to capture a moment, that will last a lifetime, with just a click of a button. Growing up, I was very shy about my work. I never showed it off and it wasn’t until about three months ago, after I had gotten our wedding album from our wedding photographer, that I found that love again! I picked up a camera and started my business that very next day. I knew it would be a rusty start after having put my camera away for close to seven years, but boy was I wrong. It’s like I never stopped pushing that camera button, or stopped saying “yes, yes, that’s the shot.”
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a storytelling photographer. I love to shoot photos of families and couples, newborns and expecting mothers. However, my favorite will always be weddings. There is so much planning that goes into such a big important day for a couple, and for it to be over so quickly, it’s even more important to make sure those moments that not everyone sees, are captured to perfection. I want people to realize that your wedding doesn’t need to be the textbook wedding, I love unique elements that show off who the couple is. I want people to be able to enjoy the planning process and their day and not stress about costs! If a couple or individuals reading this article could take one thing away from me, the most expensive photographer isn’t always the best option, it’s those who sometimes don’t get noticed that will make your day even more special who you can create a lasting relationship with well after the wedding.
How can artists connect with other artists?
When you are so shy about being who you are, that is when it can feel lonely and your work can suffer. It’s 2018, it’s time to just be who you are (an artist) and show the world what you’re made of. Yes, there will be people who don’t, agree or like your work, well, if that’s the case at least you can know that ahead of time and know that those aren’t the people who you want to work for, or create for or even start a relationship with! Just know there is someone always there to support you, ME!
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have a Facebook page (Shiloh Mariah Photography) and the Instagram page (@shilohmariah.photography). The best thing people can do to support my work, would not only be following me or liking my page but sharing and interacting with me on my pages! I love meeting new people and working on crazy, fun projects! Reach out, comment or like a photo, let’s be friends!
