Check out Rachael Kazmier’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Kazmier.

Rachael, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m a Midwest girl with a big heart for capturing couples’ stories through photography. I guess I should start by saying I never thought I’d be a photographer. My background is actually very analytical; I studied business management at Purdue University and continue to work my corporate job by day and chase my photography dreams by night. I’m not embarrassed to admit that photography is my side-hustle for now, because I believe telling your true story can empower others to realize they are capable of chasing their big dreams, too!

I’m a creator at heart who has always dreamed of running her own business. The dream itself changed a lot – one week it was owning a flower farm, the next it was designing wedding gowns. No matter what the fantasy, the underlying theme stayed constant – one day, I wanted to work for myself and build an empire that brought others joy.

I’ve always enjoyed photography as a hobby. I learned off my mom’s film camera and growing up I probably annoyed my friends by making them pose for all my photo shoots around the neighborhood. But it wasn’t until my own wedding that I realized the worth and power of capturing memories for people. Our photographer delivered the most beautiful gallery of our best-day-ever, and all the while opened my eyes to the possibility that people can make a living out of something creative that they love. They can serve others with gusto AND serve their souls at the same time! I thought to myself, “I can do that.” And once that entered my mind, I never looked back.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My photography style is bright and airy. I live for soft, natural light and sweet couples that are effortlessly in love. I’m not into stiff posing, I love to instead bring out the natural joy within people then use my camera to capture it.

My art goes far beyond pretty images (although I admit I’m a total sucker for blooming bouquets and sparkly engagement rings!) My art is about celebrating and capturing the REAL moments of life. It’s about telling true stories, just as they are. It’s about serving people well. It’s about living my biggest dreams by forging my own trail, and empowering others to do the same!

I like to think of my work as luxury, but my service as relaxed. I know that sounds like a bit of a contradiction – what I mean is that I deliver a high-quality product in my photography, but my style working with couples is very laid-back. I like to get to know clients on a personal level, because most of them remain my friends far beyond a photo shoot, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think the biggest challenge that artists face today is our own inhibitions. We spend so much time worrying about what others will think if we choose to pursue a big dream. We recall that one overly critical friend or family member who laughed at us, and we replay their hurtful words in our heads. We hold ourselves back, because society tells us that playing it safe is successful. We don’t put ourselves out there because we feel like frauds.

I’ve found the absolute best way to push through these inhibitions is to find community of like-minded artistic people who understand your dreams and encourage you to chase them without inhibition! Because let’s be honest, no matter how “successful” or “experienced” someone else looks, we’re all just out there figuring it out.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Instagram is my favorite place to hang out as far as social media goes, and my handle is @rachaelkazmier. I also enjoy blogging all my lovely couples on my website

Last month I participated in a photography retreat in Paris, France, and I’m so excited to share that some of my work will be published on various wedding blogs! Here’s one link (with more to come!)
