Check out Michael Kinsch’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Kinsch.

Michael, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was always fascinated by Chicago Architecture growing up. But it wasn’t until I was 18 that I got in photography. I most enjoy checking out and exploring abandoned architecture in Chicago, so I was intrigued to read about a local abandoned hospital not too far from me. I checked it out one night and to my surprise, I found my way in, so the next day I came back with a camera to document my experience in there. After posting it on Facebook and getting a lot of attention on my post(and getting in the local news!), I decided to continue taking pictures of Abandoned Architecture and start posting it more often. Now I’ve been doing it for about three years and see no end in sight.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My main focus is Photography. I love to photograph architecture and Chicago history, mainly abandoned/dilapidated architecture. To me, it’s about showing the world the beauty behind closed doors, it’s not every day that someone gets to see what a historic building looks like when it hasn’t been maintained or touched in ten years. When people see my work, they see the beauty in emptiness. I enjoy bringing out beauty from an otherwise lonely, destroyed structure.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
For me, I feel the most important quality is staying determined patient. In, photography the most important part is being able to control what is in your photo. But sometimes it can be extremely frustrating when things don’t go as planned. Such as missing a sunrise or poor weather, also sometimes getting into a building is difficult to do. You have to learn to stay patient and always keep an eye out for an opportunity to present itself.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I don’t have many places where people can view my work. Most of my photos are displayed on my Instagram account currently, @mikeman902

I am currently in the process of building a website to display my work.
